UCF will be the make or break game

Yes, it was a horrible showing but weren't going to beat Texas anyhow (most likely). With Aranda putting the weight on the "make or break" talk in the locker room with the team, plus with Shapen coming back, it seems like all the marbles for the rest of the season falls on the UCF game.

If the Bears win, then there could be a sea change in the rest of the schedule.
If the Bears lose a close one, it's probably done for the rest of the season.
If the Bears lose in a "laugher," it's probably over for Aranda as our HC at that very point in the season. Do we have the cash to buy him out, probably not, but it won't matter for 95% of Bear alums.

UCF game feels CRITICALLY important for the season

You're correct on it being the make or break game as far as this teams ceiling in the W/L column this year. But this feels like an ass kicking awaits…. First home conference game for UCF. Sold out hostile crowd. Won't be shocked if we fold like a cheap hooker and get beat down

We get Ahmad Dixon back for this game? Can he bring CAB with him?

I mean I'd love for this team to show even 1/5 the passion Dixon did.

Worst o-line in 15 yrs. Seems unlikely. This is the last one I will watch against my better judgement unless they can show something.

With an actual qb who can throw (still very mediocre) Im curious to see how they do. UCF has some real talent and is the one team of the newcomers that have some real guys who can hang. Don't see how they come into what will be a wild environment and win. Think Dave is finished if he can't pull it off.

I should add last night was fireable. Tex litterally has only 3 titles the entire history of the conference. No way should a competent staff be getting beat like that by anybody not named peak Bama or 22' Uga.

Last year's KSU game was the make or break game. Unfortunately, it broke us, permanently. Everything seemed to be pretty good until then.

The environment is going to be wild. Only reason I'll be watching is possibly returning Shapen and curious to see if they could somehow be even worse on the road.

And the result will be the same. That's a road game and I expect Aranda to get a 40 point beating

A win would not "make" but it would be a step in the right direction.

I think we may already be past broke.

With a $40M buyout, I understand who is on the 'Make' side and who is on the 'Break' side.

I'm not expecting a win because I think we'll have a hell of a time defending Timmy McClain and their offense. But I'll be surprised (assuming Shapen's healthy) if we don't move the ball and put some points on the board.

We will have some success in the running game against this front. UCF gave up 281 yards rushing and 536 yards total to a K-State offense that hadn't rushed for even 150 yards in its previous two games against FBS competition.

And Grimes' offense looks and works completely different when we can get yardage and first downs on the ground.

Where Texas was a nightmare matchup for our offensive line, UCF is kind of the opposite. We should be able to move the ball on the ground in this game.

My thoughts exactly we won't play an offensive or defensive line like Texas for the rest of the year shouldn't have trouble getting going

Guys this team is bad and I don't think we'll win another game this year. Why is anyone expecting anything different.

False hope and the fact that the rest of the B12 besides Tx is really bad. Lots of winnable games. Don't personally think will win any of them but I'd love to be surprised

Because the Big 12 is full of bad teams. If we don't just quit, we will win another game or two at least. There are no fewer than six other fanbases in the Big 12 right now that feel exactly the same way we do, and we have five of those teams on our remaining schedule.

But none of those other teams have a pitiful RVO, a terrible OC who doesn't know when to change, a QB who can't stay healthy, and a demotivating HC.

You should watch Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Cincinnati, Houston, Tech and West Virginia play sometime. All of those teams are as bad or worse than we are offensively -- with a healthy Blake Shapen anyway.

If Shapen goes down again, all bets are off because Sawyer Robertson is a throttler right now. But if we can keep Shapen upright, we will be competitive because these teams are every bit as limited as we are. There is a lot of really bad football being played in the Big 12 right now.

The fact that this game is being mentioned as a "make or break" game by Aranda is a testament to how far we have fallen in a matter of one year.

This team socks, soft, mentally weak and very few with talent. We will not beat UCF.

The challenge is (1) we don't know how good is Baylor is with Shapen for a full game this season and (2) Utah and Texas are probably the two toughest games (and likely defenses) on the schedule this year. If (2) is accurate and Shapen returns for UCF, we can get a preview of what Baylor will look like vs the rest of its schedule during that game. A win here would make it clear that the rest of the games are in doubt and a loss here would put bowl eligibility in doubt. Either way, Baylor needs Shapen.

UCF at the Bounce House is not a gimmee. They had 400 yards of offense vs K-State. I don't see this as a get well game... I will be happy if Shapen starts and finishes without an injury.

While I'm still not optimistic about the season - based on what we're seeing on the field - many had Utah, Texas, and UCF as likely losses since day one. Time will tell, but as surprised as I am at the TX St loss, a lot of that appears to be attributable to TX St being surprisingly decent.

UCF is make or break for Bowl Eligibility.
Lose to Tech, our only winnable games are Iowa St and Houston. None are guaranteed.

I've been kinda into the sports stuff since I was a kid.
Can someone kindly explain why this board thinks Blake Shapen is going to heal and magically become a more competitive quarterback? Am I the only one with access to his record?
The guy who completed 11 passes against Air Force? That guy? That's the savior of the program? Do any of y'all have internet or cable TV? Asking for a friend who's tired of seeing the Bears lose.

I'm in the same boat… he's never been anything more than mediocre to bad and the stats and film prove that. Now he's better than Sawyer but that's saying very very very little. He did ok vs Tx St which is why fans think he's turned a corner. His mechanics are still horrendous and he's made of glass. He won't last 2 games upon his return

Bad, we are still bad.

Hope I am wrong, but UCF will run up the score on us. 407 yards of total offense against KSU translates to 600 against our defense. Even if Shapen plays well, we won't be able to score nearly enough.
