McCavebear is sippin' on some whiskey having some random musings and golden memories of:

SHOCK LINWOOD GASHING TECH FOR 220 YARDS! (actually 221)

My God, I loved watching that guy run!

The year was 2015, and Baylor was #5 in the nation. tech dared to oppose us at Jerryworld. The red raider hordes taunted us before the game because they had brought a crowd to Arlington.

tech had decided to sell out against our passing game engineered by Seth Russell. In doing so, they picked their own poison.

SHOCK DESTROYED THEM! That good ol' Baylor O-Line opened holes left, right and down the middle to let SHOCK loose to wreck tech!

Final score : Baylor 63
tech 35

I just wish his pro career would have been as superb.

Absolutely. Lache Seastrunk was incredible, as well.
Our vibrations were getting nasty. But why? I was puzzled, frustrated... Had we deteriorated to the level of dumb beasts?

In the Pantheon of Baylor Football:

1. RGIII Baylor's Heisman

2. Mike Singletary Baylor's best middle linebacker and one of the best if not THE BEST NFL Middle linebacker

3. Shock Linwood Baylor's ALL TIME LEADING RUSHER

Real meh in college. Right! And then only the #10 pick in the NFL draft.

In 2015 Mahomes only threw for 4,654 yards, with a QB rating of 147, tops in the FBS.

And in 2016 he only threw for 5,052 yards, with a QB rating of 157, tops in the FBS.

As a freshman in 2014, Mahomes could only account for 625 yards against Baylor (598 passing, 27 rushing), BUT the Bears won the game. And we beat him again in 2015, 63-25, when he passed for only 475 yards and 3 TD's but with 2 interceptions. However, in his final college game in 2016, Mahomes threw for 586 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions against Baylor, earning a 215.3 passer rating, and the Red Raiders won 54-35.

But Mahomes set the FBS single-game record against Oklahoma in 2015, passing for 734 yards.

He also won the Sammy Baugh Award for best QB.

But Mahomes only had a "meh" college career. Right!

Don't be silly. I graduated from Baylor, not in College Station.

Shock's lightning runs lit up the scoreboard and lightened the load for his teammates.

Lightening up is always a good idea for all of us.

I think many people think of him as a "meh" college player because his teams didn't win enough (4-8 in 2014, 7-6 in 2015, and 5-7 in 2016 and wasn't every truly in the Heisman race.

Or the fact that he suffered the same fate several tech QBS (or other pass happy teams) where people thought his numbers were a result of the system and not abilities.

I was at that game. We actually had a pretty decent sized group there. It was only my second time to see a game in Jerry's World. (Cotton Bowl was first)

There was a good Baylor crowd that year. Lots of Baylor fans tailgating before and after too. It was satisfying to see because tech fans had made noise before the game about taking over the stadium.
