Are we jealous? Or has Utah taken NIL too far?

Today it's free trucks. Tomorrow it's . . . ???

Will $5-M worth of 3-ton pickups wake up Congress to allow curbs on NIL???

The first time a 20-year-old player plows into a smaller vehicle, I can only imagine the headlines and outcry. Especially if he was drinking.

Predictable and logical increase of the NIL player-buying landscape. It wasn't that long ago when NIL was just about legalized, many of us on this sub were predicting something similar to this and six figure salaries for the whole first string and more, while the majority were acting like NIL wasn't going to impact us much. But here we are. Only going to get worse unless laws are set in place to control it.

I have no affiliation with Utah but I believe their intent to attract and retain talent.
There's no negative for them. And watch their recruit ranking climb.

Why? Utah let 85 players use a truck for 6 months a year and now need Congressional interference?

I'd be more concerned that Utah has given access to a vehicle to some teenagers. (And early 20 year olds)

I'm sure many companies do more.

It won't climb in the inner city like Dallas Carter or Houston Yates.

A Dodge Ram?

Sounds like a liability nightmare waiting to happen.

Good for them (I guess) taking advantage of this "wild wild west" period of NIL, but this is all going to be reined in sooner or later.

We will remember this time when a new truck made a difference and wish we could have it back.

Feels like the old days in minor league baseball stadiums where you'd see "Hit it here and win a steak" or a suit. Now even those minor leaguers get paid enough that a free steak doesn't matter.

A leased truck for 6 months at a time that doesn't stay with them when they leave the program is cool but it's not what's bringing me to Utah when it comes to NIL. If im going to get 35k for just being on the team and I can build on top of that with other deals. That's what sells. I don't know what their package is but something like that is going to be enticing.

Yeah I agree. I would rather just have the cash. But still, this is way better than what we can offer, so maybe I am jealous

If I had any eligibility left I'd sign with Baylor for a lifetime supply of Liplockers and Oriental fries from Kitoks.

The college world has certainly changed over the years. It seems like it wasn't that long ago that athletes had to provide their own transportation to even get to a practice field or arena that was miles away. The school and coaching staff couldn't provide the transportation.

Yep. Our first scandal involved Jim Haller giving John Wheeler a plane ticket for a funeral.

Of course the investigation turned up more infractions.

FWIW I am not jealous. Angry its come to this. The intention of the ruling was to allow players to get paid when their likeness was used. Now its just a ruse to hand out pay for play.

If pay for play is the game then lets quit pretending otherwise. Post the salary's, have the kids pay taxes and do our best to put some sort of system in place to make sure a $20million team is not in the same league as a $500,000 team. Competition has to be real for the game to be real. Woodway HS playing the Dallas Cowboys is a joke and its not real competition. If some schools want to buy their wins then so be it, but lets make sure we all know that is how they did it and not pretend their school is able to attract players because they love the school. That is all I ask.

Frankly NIL saved UT football. There is no amount of money they won't pay to win if they are allowed to do it.

I want Baylor to compete against schools with rosters recruited in a similar fashion. If we don't want to play in the $20million league then I am all for that. Lets lace up against the teams in our money bracket and see how we do.

It's not like they went out and bought 85 trucks.

The players get to drive the truck for 6 months and give it back.

Kind of a dumb use if NIL money if you ask me
