My dad thought Sayers was the best back he ever saw. And Butkus was our (Bears) standard bearer.

The hardest hitter I've ever seen play the game. He didn't just hit guys, he cracked them. Pure violence and intimidation. He'll always be known for that but did you know he led all linebackers in interceptions one year? He also led the league in fumble recoveries multiple times. He was always around the ball.

He also had chronic knee pain early in his career and was told by doctors he needed to retire.
He played for another 4 seasons.

He's one of the best players you don't hear talked about enough. He's also someone that unfortunately couldn't even play by today's standards and rules that protect offensive players. His time in the NFL was where only the tough survived. He was as tough as any player who ever played the game and played the game the right way.
