Kim sounds like a petulant child in some ways, if the above stories are true. Why can't someone be happy making a REALLY nice salary in central Texas where the cost of living is relatively low? It's hard for this Bell County boy to understand.

She was in many ways. Wanted the new court named after her. Wanted to dictate where the new arena was located. Went Bat-S crazy with the practice routines/times/schedules with the men's team. Was visibly peeved in the time leading up to and following the Men's National Championship. Berated underlings in the athletic department on a regular basis, and routinely made fun of other programs in public settings. She is a phenomenal coach, one that did great things for our university, but is a Grade A assclown.

No. Absolutely no reason for it to be in the FC parking lot. None whatsoever.

Wrong. No reason to put it on the other side of I-35. Terrible decision to do so. Just, bad. Really bad. Almost idiotic, even.

You sound like a jealous ex girlfriend.

Doesn't matter if she was difficult, she is arguably the best coach in the country. Deal with it. If you cannot, then move along and go hang out with losers, which is what we hired to replace her.

Why is this thread on football board?

It's on the football board because it's really about the money saved from Kim's contact and if it's getting the ROI on the men's side of things.

Of course, she was a pain in the ass to deal with. That's part and parcel of why she was so freaking good. He gets paid a lot to deal with high maintenance people. Deal with it. I'm sure Pat Summitt was real peach.

This point is moot .Kim left of her own will and accord.

She's done many interviews where she told the LSU AD to just pay me and my assistants what were making now .

So it wasn't about money..She got all huffy and left.
It is a supervisor's job to foster an environment of trust and mutual respect between themselves and their employees.

There are numerous ways to foster a good working environment for your employees. It has been proven time and again that money does not equate to fulfillment. People want to feel appreciated, respected and that their contributions matter.

Kim left because didn't feel valued. It wasn't about her compensation - it was about being appreciated and respected. That was Choades job and he failed.

Pat has the court rightfully named after her in Knoxville. She basically built women's basketball into a legitimate sport. It wasn't NCAA approved when she took over as coach but was primetime television before she sadly had to leave us. She turned down the men's job twice.

If Mulkey made it difficult on the entire athletic department as many have mentioned then it's hard to blame Mack for not working overtime to please her every desire. They wanted city funding and that may have required the stadium going where it's at. If she was a total brat to people she viewed as beneath her then unfortunately good riddance. But I don't know the whole story.

My intent for this thread was not a rehash of Kim and why she left but rather how the $ from her salary was redirected and the results we are getting from redirecting that $.

Anytime you bring her up in any capacity on here it's going to turn into Kim bashing by certain posters. Ironically all of which are in this thread. Better off not saying her name as it triggers the snowflakes on here

It may have nothing to do with "redirecting" anything, but allowing you to be in less of a financial hole. I know that the standard practice of many people, especially those of the younger generation is that if they receive unexpected money, instead of paying down debt or putting it into savings, they simply use it to buy something else they want but don't need, leaving their overall financial balance sheet being unchanged or worse. Baylor athletics was essentially given money (by having to pay out less).

It may simply be a case of using that savings to pay for stuff which is already owed elsewhere, versus paying out more somewhere else. If so, that money has not been invested in anything new and thus you would see no changes.

So much incorrect info here

Yes, she was a very successful coach. But extremely high maintenance and hard to work with according to many.

She as well as us are better off with her departure.
anyone that thinks we are better off without her is at best severely mistaken

Sound like someone who is a champion and values championships rather then kneeling at mid-court for the show required by the BOD. I hated it when she left. I wish her only the best. *******s on premium board should stay over there in their fairytale land.

I like the vision of connecting a booming/changing downtown Waco with campus and developing a waterfront. Making Waco less of an Ames is part of future realignment, even if only slightly.

The location is great. The school and city just need to make the walk there super safe and easy for students. Do that and it should be good.

Is it really off-campus or just on the outer edge of campus. I mean they are building it behind Clifton Robinson which has been there for a long time. It is just as much on campus as McLane is on-campus.

yes and it's an even bigger difference when a major interstate divides the new basketball arena from everything else

if you are coming from the campus side the walk is going to be terrible will have to walk past all kinds oc crap including a cemetery and then underneath that freeway

walking underneath a freeway is never a good experience

I'm definitely no fan of the area chosen for the new basketball arena.

Much like a lot of things in life, it sucks but there isn't anything we are going to be able to do about it now. Sort of like having Aranda for the rest of this season and next year. Mind as well get used to it as best as you can.

Just like a river separates McLane from campus. You can't say that it is off campus and say that McLane isn't. Foster is closer to Pat Neff than McLane Stadium.

I think the placement of the Foster is wrong. I would have squeezed the parking garage right up next to the Robinson Tower and put the Foster where the garage is. Then you could see it better. It looks odd to me because it's behind the Tower and turned sideways.

Showtime is apparently still standing and the last of its kind in Waco. I'm curious if the dancers are still feeding a jukebox for their sets, like it was back in the early 80's.

Anyone think she would have left for anywhere else than to Louisiana (LSU)? Home means something, especially as you get older. I would have gone no matter what I was offered at Baylor. If you aren't of retirement age or close to it and are living away from a place you love, you can't understand. I don't think any of it was about money. Personally if I was her, I would have taken a pay cut. I can see why she has been reinvigorated. Getting home has seemed to have given her new energy.

So she kept her house in Waco because LSU is home? Gotcha.

The only connection to campus is a walkway underneath I-35. I'm assuming they'll have people park at McLane and walk the bridge over or shuttle, but then also park near the law school and all of that area and shuttle/walk.

Currently the walkway is closed for construction, but assuming it goes back to what it was it's 1.5-2 normal sidewalks in width. You have to pass the cemeteries, Texas Sports Hall of Fame, AFCA, and Texas Ranger Museum to walk that path from campus.

I'd say it's not on campus, and much less so than McLane. McLane has a straight, all on-campus walk to it whereas Foster technically won't. If they do the walkway well it won't make much difference for non-students. I do fear the physical barrier of I-35 will cause it to feel a lot more isolated for students, though.

It may not matter in the end. What I do think matters is bulldozing Robinson Tower. Preferably tomorrow and if not tomorrow on Sunday. It looks ridiculous next to Foster and will only look worse when the building is completed. It also harms the campus feel by breaking up the architecture with a random office building.
