  • 2-8 overall record
  • Outscored by an average of 10+ points, 30.9-20.2
  • Losses of 32, 28, 25 points
  • -2.7 in turnover average
  • Zero FBS home wins
  • Novosad recruiting defection
  • Bowl no-show

It's unbelievable to think we were 6-3 at one point last year and bouncing off a win in Norman. I have zero explanation for how the wheels just fell completely off after that game, but it seems like something happened that week where the team just uniformally decided to quit wholesale, in every facet.

We have not just been bad since the OU win. We have been putrid. And it happened seemingly all at once, like someone just turned the lights out on their way out the door.

Could it be...... that PERSON came in and replaced all our PLAYERS? mmmm?

Yeah I've been wondering the same thing. They way last season collapsed, Drones transferred & Novasad decommits, the lack of energy on the field all this year and lack of leadership... It really does feel like something happened behind the scenes where most of the team just quietly quit.

HOW did we fall so flat since a win in Norman?

The only thing about the theory of the players quitting in the middle of the year last year is that it does not make sense that we did not have a whole bunch of transfers at the end of the year.

It doesn't - but then none of it makes sense. OU wasn't good last year, but that's still a very quality win. Then you contrast that with what we've seen since - that team hasn't even come close to showing up in 10 months, and there is zero obvious explanation for it. There almost has to be something going on we don't know about.

To be fair, Baylor did lose 13 to transfer in the 2023 cycle. Nebraska, Louisville, Arkansas (multiple), Florida, Colorado, Virginia Tech, and Texas State all make the list of where those players went.

Is that higher than usual? I don't follow transfers that closely.

Baylor lost 7 in the 2022 cycle and 7 in the 2021 cycle, so the numbers lost in the 2023 cycle are essentially double the average of the previous two cycles.

Ok....that does seem somewhat significant then. Although....things have changed with NIL and new portal rules. So there may be a "new normal" now. I don't know.

Given that Oklahoma State experienced a similar (or greater) exodus of players in the same cycle, I'm inclined to believe that the issue in the 2023 cycle was bigger than a specific issue at Baylor, but I would need to do a lot more research on that with time that I don't have at the moment. Maybe programs like Oklahoma State and Baylor were behind the market in terms of compensation for certain players? It's unclear.

During a game I was watching a couple of weeks ago the announcers were talking about how a coach they were talking to said the dynamics have changed. I think maybe it was Deion.

He said now you aren't just recruiting players to come to your school....you are also "recruiting" your current players to stay at your school. They were saying that dynamic takes up a lot of a coach's time.

Much overthinking on this thread...

Since the OU win we've just been outcoached in all 3 phases.

This is an interesting post: https://sicem365.com/forums/1/topics/129510/replies/3399027

Maybe guys didn't transfer out because they didn't think they had a place to land? I honestly don't know, and I don't know if my speculation about anything behind the scenes is even realistic. It just seems like a weird trajectory to me.

Dave Aranda is 22-20 in year four.

If he didn't have a conference title, he would not survive at any P5 program after this season.

Even with one, he might not.

The numbers are completely unacceptable and are indicative of a train wreck.

We are in an era of realignment where we could be stuck relegated to a lower level of college football in 15 years with a 45k stadium that will never fill again. And that's real, folks.

The schools with better NIL incentives just pick off our good players. Gonna happen again this offseason. And we will be worse next year until Baylor steps up and plays the money game.

That's seemingly inevitable regardless as to what Baylor does on the field.

Here is my take:

We played all of the worst teams leading up to the KSU game. we beat ou because they were in disarray with a new coach.

We then lost 3 in a row because those were the 3 best teams in the conference. ksu, tcu, ut.

That explains the skid at the end of the year.

We then graduated all of the remaining Rhule recruits and kept a very bad OC.

So going into the new season (2023) we continued to run a **** offense and apparently, have not developed players over the past 2 seasons.

To be honest, I think we have a lot of good players on this team. We just have the wrong staff.

How many of our current receivers would have started on a Briles offense?

How many offensive linemen?
