Wouldn't sitting out sort of hurt his draft stock since his last several games have been bad QB play? Seems to me scouts/gms/head coaches would think about the last games he played and wonder if that was indicative of where his game was going???

He's going to be a bust. As obvious and spectacular a bust as Bryce Young. And all his goofy nonsense about demanding partial ownership from the team that drafts him (which his agent should know is not allowed) is going to end up knocking down a coaching staff.

I agree, his draft stock stays higher if he can sit out and avoid being outplayed by a 3rd string walk-on like Bryson Barnes.

Whether he's overrated or not, he's pretty much a lock to be the number one pick, and in fact, there are multiple NFL teams that are currently tanking to fight for that pick if that tells you anything. I think opportunistic coaches like Lincoln Riley that show zero loyalty tend to attract opportunistic players like Caleb Williams.

I don't think Bryce Young looks like a bust, but the Panthers really should have taken Stroud. I think Bryce looks like a guy whose physical tools are pretty average and who is playing for a bad team with no weapons around him. But he hasn't looked bad by any means.

Williams absolutely has tremendous talent…. but talent isn't all that it takes to pan out at the next level. I would be absolutely shocked if he isn't the number one pick and if he doesn't have teams giving up multiple firsts to move up to get him. The way he acts in the pre-draft process will be crucial.

i'm with you. it reminds me of kyler murray. they are both just so small - if they don't have dynamic weapons that are so so open and quickly, the amount of work/time to make something happen just isn't that repeatable in the NFL.

Kyler Murray is 5 10 standing on his tippy toes

Caleb Williams is 6 1 and a thicker guy.

Williams is a small NFL QB but in the range. Kyler should have stuck with baseball

Murray is built pretty thick as well. Bryce is the outlier. He looks like a high school quarterback.

leading up to the draft, I never understood the takes of people that were gushing over how big and athletic Anthony Richardson was but also trying to say that Bryce Young's tiny stature and frame weren't a big deal

The defining trait of a successful quarterback in the NFL is being able to throw with anticipation. Some guys can learn to do it and some can't. Williams did it pretty often last year. I haven't really paid attention to him this year, but I think he has the culmination of traits that would lend him success in the NFL. It's pretty much a crapshoot though

USC offensive line protects him about as good as Baylor's protects Shapen. If Caleb Williams matures a little more he is going to be a dog. He already has all the talent.

I wonder if Rattler will be a better pro than Caleb Williams. Rattler looks pretty solid and he seems more durable.

College ball just doesn't prepare QB's for the intricacies of reading NFL defenses who have great athletes and great coaches. My theory is that their eyes and brains are always on the defense because they already know where their receivers are going to be. They can see the whole field and they can "feel" the pressure. It's a rare ability. Montana, Brady, Manning, Mahomes just don't come along every year. It's a crap shoot to find one. A lot of guys are big, strong and can throw a perfect pass. There's just a lot more to it than that.

There are only 2 players that I know of in history that got equity ownership as part of their compensation - David Beckham and Lionel Messi. Beckham was a great player who made the MLS a legitimate organization by playing there.

Messi is the greatest soccer player of all time, and deserves whatever someone is willing to give him. It's like Michael Jordan + Tiger Woods in 1 person. The terms of his agreement with Adidas are better than what Jordan could get with Nike. Ticket sales in the MLS increased over $300 million once Messi decided to play this year. His Miami jersey sold more in it's first day than any product Adidas has ever produced in it's history. On road games, the opposing teams say they sell more merchandise the 1 day of his game, than all other games combined for the entire season. It's a freaking circus when he comes to town, no other player in the world requires full time ex-Navy Seal protection, even when he's playing on the field. There's Messi, and then there's everyone else.

Williams hasn't played a down in the NFL. Gimme a break. Go prove yourself buddy.

Nashville SC fan here. Cup final against Miami and Messi the cheapest seat was over $1,000

It doesn't help that the stadiums are generally smaller, but yeah, nobody draws a crowd like Messi.

Can you call a guy a bust this early into his pro career?

Fair. So no, we don't know.

But what we do know is Young was the top pick and he's not making his team better yet. But Stroud has improved his team.
I'm a Falcons fan FWIW for life so I'm happy to have any team in NFC South struggling. Maybe that's why I'm hard on him.

Wasn't Acho a ut player? Of course Caleb is "entitled" to become an nfl player so for sure he needs to quit on his team after 6 games. How else would a former longhorn rationalize it?

All of Lincoln Riley's QBs that finished their college carriers as starters under him have panned out so far in the NFL (Mayfield, Murray, and Hurts), so, if Caleb flames out there, he would be the first.

What a dummy. A gent named M. Jordan showed what being the King of Chicago can do for you. Are the Temps too chilly in the Fall, you soft little B? I hate when players want assurances. Just hate it. Be a big man in a big market or go be the most important guy in Charlotte.

I am not sure that they've panned out.

Mayfield has been on 4 different teams in 6 years and has a lifetime passer rating comparable to Mason Rudolph and Carson Wentz. He is also incredibly arrogant. NFL record 40-46

Kyler Murray is pretty much the definition of an average NFL qb. IMO they should move on, but this is the same team that hired Coach Bro, so? He is also incredibly arrogant. NFL record 28-36

Hurts, I will give you, is a good NFL QB and seems to be pretty straight arrow. He also played for Bama for 3 years (which I doubt is a coincidence).

We know Williams is incredibly arrogant. I guess we'll see how he looks in the NFL and whether he is coachable. My bet is he's not

Not to concede the point, but an average NFL QB is the definition of panning out.
