ROUND ROCK, Texas – Baylor soccer fell in the first round of the Big 12 Championship against Cincinnati, 3-2, Saturday afternoon at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
Jenna Patterson got off the first shot for the Bears in the first half, but it was Cincinnati that struck first and went up 1-0 in the 11th minute.
Patterson’s next shot was on frame, forcing Cincinnati to make their first save in the 19th minute. Ashley Merrill then had a shot blocked before a corner kick for the Bears in the 26th minute lined up a shot for Hannah Augustyn, whose header went just wide of the goal.
Ashlee Zirkel faced six shots in the first half, making one save.
The Bearcats started the second half the same way as the first and scored their second goal in the 50th minute.
Trailing 2-0, the Bears recorded four shots, three of them on goal, before finding the back of the net for the first time.
Off an assist from Tyler Isgrig, Augustyn found her second goal of the season in the 69th minute to cut the Bearcats’ lead in half.
The Bears didn’t stop there. Callie Conrad lined up a shot before the Bears’ leading goal scorer, Merrill, headed in her 12th goal of the season in the 83rd minute. Assisted by Isgrig, Merrill’s equalizer put the Bears back in the game.
The Bearcats capitalized just 49 seconds later, to score the go-ahead goal.
