Dude is a baller, but has no chance with his OC/OL. My hope as a fan is he stays and has a new staff next year. Big Shapen fan.
. lol. He is one of the worst qb's in fbs. Look at his stats. Horrible.
I remember you from the old BF forum.

Sorry that I cannot remember; were you always a moron, or is it just on this forum?
good argument. https://www.espn.com/college-football/qbr

Put him behind a good oline and he'd be a competent qb that wins a good amount of games.
no, he wouldn't. Shapen is really bad.
i want to make this clear - i am not comparing shapen with prior baylor qb's.

that said, you know this is a team sport, right?

his ol cannot block, he does not have a rb that he can lean on and aside from baldwin, we don't have anyone that can stretch a defense

not that it matters because shapen doesn't have enough time to throw

i agree with you. I am just saying this entire team is bad. The OL is probably the worst in the FBS, BUT Shapen is also bad. Both can be true. Very very few bright spots.

Shapen is not the trash some on here think he is. He has about 11 milliseconds to throw the ball. He is much improved from last year and has worked his way up to being an average D1 quarterback, and that is not bad. You can throw all the QBR stats you want at me and they mean very little because those stats are highly influenced by the quality of his surrounding players.

Not sure I see posters saying Shapen is "trash" on these threads, just that he is an average P5 QB . Everyone has an opinion and that is what the banter on this board is supposed to be about. Stats DO matter, but don't make up the entire story however they are the only objective measure besides one's personal opinion. He is a game kid and has a decent arm, but I disagree that his shortcomings are totally related to lack of time due to line play. I see a guy that is not very good at reading defenses, who looks right at his primary receiver from the second the ball hits his hands. If the receiver is open he does a decent job of getting the ball there, however if the guy is covered, he has used up most of his time and either scrambles or dumps it off. He does not seem to be able to read the defense and know who should be open or who has single coverage, where the holes are in a zone and who should be there for a completion. Maybe this is a result of coaching ? maybe the way that Grimes structures his routes , or maybe like many QB's it just isn't part of his skill set. Elite QB's can influence the secondary with their eyes and create opportunities for their receivers to get open . He throws into double coverage all the time and I have never seen a weaker wide receiver screen team than Baylor is this year. Too slow getting the ball in the receivers hands.

Shapen is average, Bohanon was average, Chuck Brewer was slightly above average at his best, but average on the whole. Average has kinda been the status quo of qb around here for a while and that's not even in the top 5 of the biggest problems with our program currently.

In other words, Shapen is not good enough to carry a team, but is not the reason we are 3-7

Agree. He is not the reason we are 3-7. But he's "a" reason, meaning he's not making the whole offense that much better or worse. He ranked 11th among Big12 quarterbacks week 10 but most weeks he's 6-7 range which is fair to call average. Not exceptional, not gawdawful. He is generally staying ahead of Morris over at TCU so that's a good thing.

Shapen made some amazing throws today that were dropped. Hope you and the other armchair QBs in here saw that.
