Shapen is a very good player with a ton of heart--one of about 6, maybe 7 great Baylor players. The rest are way below average.

Physically he reminds me of Florence. In Briles system with talent and coaching I think he'd be pretty decent. Not a RGIII or a Petty or a Russell to be sure, but pretty good. I do think he's been a rare bright spot with his competitiveness this year. He just hasn't been given any kind of a chance to be successful.

I can compare the 2 as QBs absolutely…. If you can't see the difference in their skill sets it's because you choose not too. Bruce was drafted. Blake ain't sniffing the NFL because he's simply not good enough. That's not a shot at Blake that's reality.

This isn't a knock on Shapen. Briles offense doesn't go on holding the ball 5 to 7 seconds. It doesn't work with shaky feet.





Look at the Petty footwork. You don't see him throwing while barcoding. Put a clock on throws. And the arm strength.

Blake Shapen is not Petty. But he's made great strides since last year. He's one of the few Bears I really enjoy watching. Nobody's saying he's NFL caliber, but when someone has the determination to run for it on 4th and forever and make the first down in spite of his OL, I don't have a lot of bad things to say about that person.

Petty went to play for the worst team in the NFL, where no QB has found success in decades. His NFL performance should have an asterisk, if he played for a decent team who knows how he would have turned out. He wouldn't have been a MVP, but a good coach could have used his arm.

Most NFL coaches don't know how to coach any way but one way.
