I think Nick Florence is a better comp. Yes, with a better line and the insane skill players that we had circa 2012, he would look a lot different, but I could say that about a lot of mediocre quarterbacks

Michigan's QB credited his teammates when asked about his beating Tom Brady's college record. The system and your teammates clearly matter. RG3 would look bad with Aranda and Grimes.

I have no doubt in my mind that Jarrett Stidham would've won a national championship at Baylor. Best arm talent Baylor has ever had. Sigh

Shapen has grown as a competitor. Not so much as a QB. Misses reads that good H.S. quarterbacks make. He should have seen that blitz on the sack/fumble in the 1st. It developed immediately after the snap.

Those miscues happen every game. He does play hard and with a fire that he didn't seem to have even last year. I think he tries hard, but his skills are limited and the coaching has been poor.

He would be better as a baseball prospect ... IMO.

Shapen does play very hard and with some fire, unlike most of his teammates. Of course he would be better with better help, but he is too inaccurate and too inconsistent and makes too many mistakes to ever play ahead of really any of Briles' QB's. I agree with the other guys on this one. I do appreciate his attitude this year. He is battling.

This isn't a knock on Shapen. Briles offense doesn't go on holding the ball 5 to 7 seconds. It doesn't work with shaky feet.





Look at the Petty's footwork. You don't see him throwing while backpedaling. They quickly go through their reads and make decisive throws. Put a clock on throws. And the arm strength.

Maybe under Briles, his mechanics are better. Maybe under Briles his options are better. For sure, under Briles, his QB room is better.

This Shapen doesn't play for Briles.

Best QB stats percentage wise would be Seth Russell. His injures took play time away. But he was a winner.

Thanks. The vast majority here are big fans of Shapen. Kid has heart, and I'd love to see him play behind a real O-line, and for an OC who can leverage his talent.
