Hope nothing but the best for Briles but if that happens I hope he loses every game.
Our vibrations were getting nasty. But why? I was puzzled, frustrated... Had we deteriorated to the level of dumb beasts?

The sheep people would never hire Briles.
They have principles and quality characteristics unsurpassed in their own minds.

Well, they DID just have a HC, OC, and DC with plenty of prior smoke….

Briles situation, for whatever reason, was such a bonfire that he is untouchable.

This would be scary. Might drive Saban into early retirement.

For now that OC and DC are remaining..of course they'll be gone with the next hire

There has to be an overlap between politics in America and how Baylor fans feel about Briles. I don't understand either. Wild to see.

Actually I'd argue there's probably tons of D1 programs who would take Art in a heartbeat if they knew there wouldn't be black flash from the media.

You added a qualifier that takes us into unicorn land. If only NFL teams thought they wouldn't get blowback from signing Colin Kapernick they'd suddenly be relevant again.

Nobody wants Briles. Nobody, and he did it to himself. Personal ownership. His leadership - not his acumen! - is an embarrassment to literally every program's fan base outside of ours. The vocal minority of Baylor fans who pine for his inability to steer a program take us further into clowntown with the rest of America every time it leaks out of our channels and we will never move on until its rancorous nonsense is excised.

It's funny that everyone admits Aranda is a good dude who shouldn't be running our program and can't do the same thing with Briles.

It's nuts like you who have created and perpetuated the false narrative about Briles which absolutely destroyed the career of a good man. Yes. A good man.

Although you have convinced yourself you speak for the righteous majority, you are actually in a shameful small minority. But a sadly powerful one. The overall Baylor community, which probably has more information and knowledge about the man and the circumstances than anyone else (certainly even more than the powers that ruined him) supports him by a vast majority.

So go blow your bull**** at someone who might believe it.

We didn't win any national titles. Heck, we didn't win any NY6 bowl games under Briles. We always choked.

I loved Briles, but he wasn't Saban or Kirby Smart.

I think Briles has become a "better" coach since he departed.........a better coach in people's minds. Defenses have changed as they have encountered more teams trying to run that offense. There will be no way to tell whether it would still work at the previous level or not since he will not be hired at any P5 program as HC, and just like in finance....past results are not a guarantee for future success.

His style caught lightening in a bottle during a time frame when his style on the college level was new and innovative. I recall a time when the wishbone was destroying defenses. UT made a killing on it. Then over time, the defenses figured it out. How many run wishbone now?

I think the desire for return to success is thinking that the past could be installed currently and have just as much success. Maybe it could, but I suspect the risk of the downsides due to it being a PR nightmare for ANY program and combined with the distinct possibility that that offense would not see the production it did in the past far outweighs the possibility that it still might work on the level we had it in the mid-teens.

Briles was and probably still is the greatest offensive mind there is… he would have adapted. The dude torched a top 15 UNC without a QB…. Think about that… I think you just refuse to give the guy credit because you have a strong dislike for him

I don't usually direct anything at posters. But you are a piece of work. I have never said I dislike Briles. I have an autographed football he gave me prominently displayed in my TV room. Thanks for the strawman to a legitimate point that things change over time and what worked in the past may not work as well in the future. I would suggest you quit assuming the minds of posters you have never met.

None of his disciples are having championship level success, including those closest to him -- Montgomery, Kendal and Lebby.

The fact of the matter is rule changes have made it impossible to run at Art's tempo and catch defenses before they're set anymore. Now you have to beat them with scheme and execution, not tempo, which is much more difficult to do. Particularly with a scheme that's not overly complex in its concepts.

Art has a brilliant offensive mind, so he likely would adapt and find a way to do what he does better than his coaching tree has. But some of the things we did at our peak under Briles have been legislated out of the game.

Let's find the next Art Briles and hire him. Someone who brings entirely different style and isn't afraid of the big boys. Someone who refuses to lose and has a history of winning(even at the high school level). Someone like Jeff Traylor......raised in church.......inside tougher than nails. turned UTSA around without 4* and 5*. One thing I've absorbed over a long time watching coaches is that (when they are brought into a new conference) they have to Learn to win in that environment. Better coaches learn fast and if they are slow learners; they get fired.

Unfortunately for Art you have to play defense.

We gave up 17 points in the Fiesta 4th Q.

We gave up 21 points in the Cotton 4th Q.

As a former player it killed me to see the network cameras show Bryce having to sit on the sidelines and watch Michigan State dawg-drill us for 21 in the 4th. You could tell by the look on his face he knew we were going to get beat.

Offense? One of the best ever.
Defense? One of the worst ever. Not enough practice time.
Special Teams? Hot & cold. Not enough practice time.
Discipline? What is that?

We had no choice versus UNC. My 7th grade coach at Burnet Junior High would have made that adjustment during the TCU typhoon where he had our WR winging it downfield against a porous TCU defense that started 3 or 4 freshmen. Then he tried the same thing with another WR versus one of the worst Texas Longhorn defenses in 50 years. The light bulb flickered in the 3rd Q. Came on in the 4th Q . By then it was too late. We were left with the Mall Fight game.
