I am hoping for 25,000. I mean, it is the PERFECT STORM for an empty stadium on Saturday.

1. We are having a terrible year. I have been a Baylor fan since childhood and our fans habitually bow out when times get tough.

2. We play BORING and SLOW. It's just not an entertaining form of football to watch no matter whom you are rooting for.

3. It's a 6:00 P.M. game. I drove over two hours last evening after spending the day in D/FW. I did not get home until after midnight. It wouldn't be worth it to watch Baylor get beatdown, and I doubt after traveling for Thanksgiving, our out of area fans will be willing to travel for another beatdown.

4. It's the Saturday after Thanksgiving. See no. 3 above. I think the same would apply for WV fans.

5. It will be in the low 50's at gametime.

6. We are not playing a Texas teams, that and the fact WV already clinched a bowl spot this year and is playing a remarkably inferior team, I just don't see too many Mountaineer fans offseting the amount of home apathy we will be seeing this weekend.

7. I personally know of fans who have told me that they are boycotting in order to effect change within the program.

8. This is the 8th game of an 8 home game season in which we have failed to win any games against FBS foes.

All that, and you have the recipe for a nearly empty stadium on Saturday.

Have we paid off the bonds on the stadium yet? It may need to be extended now.

To be honest, 25,000 would be decent. My guess is that the announced attendance will be like 30,000, and actual butts in seats will probably be ~15,000

I was living in Waco in 1996, and I was so frustrated after the loss to A&M that year (and our 1-5 record at the time in Big 12 play) that I intentionally did not attend the Missouri game at the Case the next week in part to "effect change" within the program. Many apparantly did the same and what resulted was one of the smallest crowds in Floyd Casey history at the time (and other than the 2001 SIU game, and the COVID year, still might be the smallest). It turned out (I heard) to be a very exciting game where we rallied from 28-0 in 3rd to force OT (this was the first season of OT in college football) but we ultimately lost. Whether this small crowd was a factor or not, I'm not sure but we lost the season finale at OSU the next week and Reedy was fired. Things got worse and didn't get back to even that level again for about a decade. Therefore, I may or may not attend but it won't be for that reason, call me superstitious. That said, I think it will be a decent game. WVU is relatively locked into their spot and doesn't have too much to play for, we have enough talent to hang with them, and I think there will be some motivation from our players not to finish 0-7 vs FBS at home. Plus, we've always played WVU well at home, we're 4-1 in Waco while I think it will be similar to UH game with WVA winning a close one.

I think it will be similar to UH game with WVA winning a close one.

The 1996 A&M game drew nearly 47,000. The following week the Mizzou game drew less than 23,000. Reedy was canned a week later after losing at OkSt.

I ran from the door of my house past McLane Stadium yesterday. Literally ran, with my legs.

It's way too far to drive to watch that staff.

It may be a distinct possibility, but I really have no idea. Overwhelming number of media requests doesn't seem likely.

I am going because my son has to go since he is working the sideline, brings out the review screen when one is called. This is his last game after five years of doing it. However, sadly, I have set my expectations low and expect them to be met....

How frustrating would it be for everything to actually come together and on this final game they play a complete game with energy and beat WVU. I mean a win on the final game would be kind of nice but frustrating none the less.

Bill Bealls last game had approximately 5,000 in attendance at Kickoff.

By the end of the game, there were less than 500 huddled in front of the pressbox.

I'm glad I'll at least be able to watch it on TV. It's been a rough few weeks trying to listen to games on the radio.

They always make the 2nd round (beat an El Paso team.) But when they go to Area they hit Euless Trinity and North Crowley. I cannot remember the last time they got past round 2.

I was a kid and my Uncle (who played for Baylor in the mid 60s) was a coach at Arlington Lamar. I was at all those games... Permain, Lamar, Dallas Carter. All games were played at the old Cowboys Stadium. I must have gone to 50 games there growing up - still never been to a Cowboys game...and I can see AT&T from my house.

Edit: Most Saturdays had a triple header. We'd stay for all 3 each time - sometimes catching 4a teams as well. (No 6a then). I also remember watching Stephenville there a few times under Briles. But that was much later.

For McLane it seems likely, but if you include the Case, In my BU memory it was the Southern Illinois Game in 2001 which was announced at 7,000. I think even in the COVID year we drew more than that. It was last game of year and there were a few variables involved. First, the game was a makeup game. We had been scheduled to play Minnesota in the second game of the year at the Metrodome (returning a home and home because they beat us in Waco in 2000). Minnesota game was cancelled due to 9-11 and it was not rescheduled. Southern Illinois replaced it. It was not part of the season ticket package. After winning the first 2 vs. Arkansas State and New Mexico, we started Big 12 play and had lost 8 in a row, most were not competitive. Southern Illinois was FCS (or the version of it at the time) and I think was 1-9 coming in. Not a lot of enthusiasm. It, like this week, was Thanksgiving weekend. We led 14-6 at half before finally moving ahead to win 56-12. Although somebody said a game during the Beall era might have had fewer?

The problem we will have getting an "actual" attendance number is the "official" attendance will include season tickets regardless of if they show up or not. They always bake this into the reported numbers to pad the stats on attendance. They don't do the old turnstile count anymore.

That's how it's always been done - at least at McLane. A ticket sold = attendance.
