They beat 0 yes 0 teams that finished with a winning record. Like I said congrats to them they capitalized on a weak ass schedule. Something Dave sure couldn't do

I don't follow. They beat 3 teams with winning records this year. They gave up more than 16 points once in 12 games. They are a pretty damn good football team. I assume you're up there so you would know if Hawkeye fans are happy.
They're top 10 in defensive FEI every single year. Their offense will make your eyes bleed, but as we learned with Briles, any team with a consistent top-10 unit on one side of the ball or the other will always win a lot of games.

Iowa isn't an elite team/program, but only a clown would say "they're not worth a crap." Their offense may be painful to watch, but programs that win are always better than those that don't. And Iowa has won 10 games three of the last five years -- with 8-5 marking its worst season in that span.

That's a top five program in the Big Ten under Ferentz. They're better than everybody but Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State most years.
I agree with the clown. Iowa is crap. To me they are crap because they are just painful, dreadful to watch.

If we go beyond how horrible they are to watch, they are still not that impressive. Their hallmark is being consistently average or a tick above average.

-The last Big 10 title they won was is 2004, and it was a shared title.
-They averaged 5th-6th place in the Big 10 over the past 20 years - a conference that outside of Ohio St and the occasionally good to very good 2nd team (like Wisconsin, or some one-off years of others) was mostly pathetic from 2000-2019. Not sure if you remember, but the Big 10 was the butt of jokes for a solid 18 years. Now that the cheater Harbaugh has Michigan off its face, that's changed over the past 3 seasons (While Wisconsin has stepped back quite a bit).
-Their best season ever, 2015, ended with them getting railroaded in the Rose Bowl by Stanford. And I mean railroaded.
-Their second best season, 2002, saw them lose to USC by 21 points in the Orange Bowl.

To be fair, they rarely just flat out crater like us (i.e. Steel years, or 2017/2020/2023) and there is some value to being consistent.

The last Big 10 title they won was is 2004, and it was a shared title. They are middling team at best. They averaged 5th-6th place in the Big 10 over the past 20 years - a conference that outside of Ohio St and the occasionally good to very good 2nd team (like Wisconsin, or some one-off years of others) was mostly pathetic from 2000-2019. No team that allows 12.2 points per game is crap. Their offense is crap. But that's only half the game.

They are quite literally one of the best defensive teams in the country every year. And that's why they continue to win more games than a lot of the flashy spread teams you guys would consider better.

The object is to win games. Iowa consistently does that with their formula. They'll never beat Ohio State or Michigan that way. And they'll rarely beat Penn State. But they'll consistently beat everyone else on their schedule doing what they do.

Finding a coach involves correct timing. This was the year to get rid of Dave and find somebody else. Competition really isn't that stiff this year
Bingo. I'll be so pissed if UH ends up with him. That means he could have, probably would have, come here. But no, we had to give Dave one more lame duck year.

I'll pencil that game in as a loss if they hire traylor. That would leave Dave as the worst coach in the big 12, right behind Neal Brown
You mean 8-4 Neal Brown? That Neal Brown? I'd take Neal Brown every day and twice on Sunday instead of Aranda.

This is the first year at West Virginia that he's been >.500 . Like I said, I would put Dave right behind him, because I'm assuming Brown isn't in the middle of an on the job training program at West Virginia like Aranda is at Baylor

Unless you are on Iowa fan, you are not tuning into watch Iowa football games. For entertainment value - which is the basis of watching sports, I would rather watch reruns of the Steele years vs. watching the pathetic shyt that is Iowa football.

Regardless of who UH hires they will kick our ass regularly. Especially if they decide on Fritz. The Chronicle had a long story on how UH wasted a year and they have to do something to increase fan interest in the program. They are spending big bucks upgrading facilities but haven't been able to create much fan interest. That will change if they win consistently.

UH is the heart of high school football talent in SE Texas, much better than Central Texas.

I don't think more than a couple thousand people have ever cared about UH sports at a time in their history. I don't see that changing anytime soon.

But with a billionaire funding it all, at least they can compete on the field I guess.

A. 82-84 UH basketball was the hottest team in the country.

B. Billionaires funding things doesn't equal competitive. Ask A&M, David Tepper, or the Yankees.

WV avoided ISu, KSU, and Texas this year. They beat virtually no one with a pulse. They had a laughable easy schedule just like us. The only difference is they capitalized on it
8-4 is 8-4. I'm very much a "You are what you're record says you are" guy, good or bad. Next year may tell a new story, but Neal Brown did a really nice job in 2023.

They won eight games and were a fluke pick in the end zone and Hail Mary on the final play from beating Houston and finishing 7-2 in league play.
Absolutely. He's a good coach. Guys like him, Justin Wilcox, Justin Fuente aren't bad coaches and were names I wanted us to interview when we hired Aranda.

What is Justin Fuente doing these days?

He was a pretty big hire for Va Tech couple years back. Think had a strong year or 2 then flamed out pretty quickly.
I also thought he would be a good candidate for us… may still be viable.

You are forgetting the Ware-Klingler teams from the late 80s-early 90s. They were pretty good then, Ware even won the Heisman and blew away a bunch of NCAA records in the process. If I recall that correctly, he skipped the awards ceremony in New York because he wasn't willing to skip a game the team was scheduled for on the same day and his mom picked up the trophy.

I was big on making the move for Traylor last year. Got to be really tough on AD's trying to make the right hire when there are very few sure things out there.
