Bell is a former Baylor quarterback and #txhsfb coach who joined Matt Rhule’s initial staff in 2017. He was moved down from QBs to TEs coach this off-season.

With the decision, four of five offensive coaches are gone from Baylor’s 2023 staff. https://t.co/6IQ8JR6VNB
And the entire staff from our 107th-ranked defense remains intact.Russell Gym said:Bell is a former Baylor quarterback and #txhsfb coach who joined Matt Rhule’s initial staff in 2017. He was moved down from QBs to TEs coach this off-season.

That is an appropriate thing to say. Good job. I would have said something much worse and glad I didn't.Bakersdozen said:
Shawn has his QB position for several years and didn't move up. Time for him to move on. I sure do appreciate all of his effort during some great and sometimes challenging circumstances.
That's my point. The offensive staff got scapegoated, and every member except for the running backs coach found a good job instantly. The defensive staff remains intact with a bunch of scrubs nobody wants.RightRevBear said:
Would you hire them away? That is the only way they are leaving.
I mean Dave isn't going to fire them. He only fires coordinators to save his job.
This is a likely a self-preservation move. He knows he's on a sinking ship, doing a job he doesn't want to do. Now he gets to join a really good head coach in Houston, doing the job he actually wants. It's a great move for him and allows him to shed the Dave Aranda stink all of these others will take on when the entire staff is fired after another disappointing season next fall.Bakersdozen said:

I can't imagine Spavital's tight ends coach is a very high-ranking member on his staff. His offense barely even used a tight end at all before last season.Dia del DougO said:
I like Bell and hope he returns for bigger things someday. But this is probably better to have Spav hire someone he knows that is on the same page, and possibly has connections to some solid recruits and transfers that might follow them to BU and give the roster a boost.

And Mateos had another P4 OL coaching job within days, and Grimes got a new OC job with a better head coach within a week or two.PartyBear said:
I can't vouch for the Bell situation but I'm pretty's sure everyone else who has left thus far has been asked to leave.
I'm all for that. It can be both.No Quarterback said:Dia del DougO said:

We don't need to hire another washed up P4 guy that just got fired. Go out and hire the most well-connected/charismatic high school coach you can find imho

It's almost like these guys aren't bad coaches. They were just working for one.
I'd agree on Spavital. And I think we traded up at the RB coach spot. But I'm not sold at all on this OL coach. He was pretty much a disaster at Michigan State.PartyBear said:bear2be2 said:And Mateos had another P4 OL coaching job within days, and Grimes got a new OC job with a better head coach within a week or two.PartyBear said:

I don't think the ones we have hired this far are bad.
Probably right. I think it was the same as some earlier position moves that Baylor just valued Bell overall as a coach and recruiter and sort of Baylor glue guy, and they did what they could to find ways to keep him on the staff.bear2be2 said:I can't imagine Spavital's tight ends coach is a very high-ranking member on his staff. Either way, Shawn is trading up by leaving Aranda for Fritz.
