I cannot believe how much money is being thrown around by these colleges. I mean, sooner or later somthing has got to give. the last two Hiesman trophy winners each made easily 7 figures and I am not sure they really brought that kind of value. And even if they do, that is not the way that the average player should be paid.

How are any of these smaller schools/ schools with less football tradition going to keep up with the Oregons, Alabamas, Texas, Michigan, Ohio State, etc.????

I mean, they never really have before. When was the last time a "new" blue blood was minted? Early 00's Oregon is the only one I can think of, and even though it was pre-NIL we all know the only reason that happened was because of ol moneybags Uncle Phil.

The last chance to jump into the big boy arena happened in the mid-90's when the SEC started the ball rolling on the massive money TV deals. That poured concrete on the field and cemented the have's and the have not's forever.

NIL may have driven in a few decisive nails, but the CFB coffin on national title competitiveness has been shut tight for decades now.

This. The chances of Baylor winning a national title are nil, and that's not because of any recent changes as they were nil the day the BCS started. Further, Art Briles or no Art Briles, those chances were still the same.

There is a reason that only Miami, Colorado, and BYU have won an AP title outside of the go-forward P2 + Clemson + FSU and that the most recent win from that trio was over 20 years ago (and pre CFP with: (1) only one win coming in BCS, (2) Colorado only needing to win 7 conference games and (3) BYU won it out of the tough WAC).

But TCU was in the title game two years ago. Maybe only a dozen schools could get to number one, but 50 or so had a shot at number two or at a Heisman or at playing in the biggest regular season game of the year or having a great local rivalry that drew national attention. Stuff that was really fun. National championships are not the only fun part of college football. But NIL, as was clearly inevitable when installed, has taken all the fun stuff away and put it in the hands of a few.

At some point the schools are going to have to share that TV revenue with the players.

To get things to a fair(er) ground and something that is sustainable long term, we need a model like the NFL.

There needs to be a draft, a CBA, a salary cap, better scheduling (more consistent and even)

The way it is now is not going to work long term.

Imagine if the top 4 revenue NFL teams could just go sign any player they wanted out of high school or college without a draft. The players would just go with who gave them the most money. It would cripple the league.

I don't think anyone would disagree the following statement:

2022 TCU was the first Big 12 team to play for a national title since 2009 and the first legacy 8 Big 12 team to play for a national title in the modern era (who knows when the last time a legacy 8 team played for one?). Once there, TCU subsequently lost the game 65-7 in the biggest blowout in bowl history.

That statement says everything.

Why do we keep referring to Oregon as a Blue Blood? Washington won the Pac12 last year and for 2 years before that it was Utah - they have won 3 Pac12 titles in the last 10 years - Pac12 is relatively weak - how many national titles? so Blue Blood? I don't think so.

all it says is they lost. They beat Michigan to have a chance. To infer that they didn't belong is silly.

The catch right now is that colleges aren't the ones throwing their money around....it's the fans and a few businesses in some situations.

I would imagine the fans financial support will start to dwindle over time. It's not a sustainable model.

Nobody should donate to professional teams.

Pro teams are a business. They price their tickets and negotiate deals with media and then spend that money on players and other expenses (except for extorting local governments to pay for stadiums). If ticket sales plus media rights don't cover OPEX and player costs either the teams go broke or the players take play cuts.

If players want to be pros, and colleges want to own pro franchises, that's the way it works. Nobody (except, unfortunately, local taxpayers for stadiums), donates anything.

I still can't figure out how owning a pro team advances any school's educational mission.

And, since they are all pros, can we start calling our individual players for poor performance?

Yes, to all of that.

I'm never giving a dime to NIL. I'm not paying professional players because the schools don't want to share the TV revenue.

No matter how many times you slice it up or don't slice it up, NIL is still STINKY!!! Especially for Scrubby Little Baylor. Closing our eyes and wishing it will just magically disappear is not gonna make it happen.
