As always saying all the right things.

Jarrett Stidham aired his frustration over losing the Denver Broncos' starting quarterback competition, admitting he was "very disappointed" with the team's decision to crown first-round rookie Bo Nix over the sixth-year veteran.

"I know I'm a starting quarterback in this league. I have no doubts about that, and it just didn't shake out my way,"

The problem with being starter material at quarterback in the NFL is that if you're not one of the top 10 or so starters, every team is going to look to
replace you ASAP. gone are the days of teams trying to build an elite defense around an average starter. You're not getting past Mahomes, Burrow, Herbert, CJ Stroud, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson et. al in the modern NFL unless you have a quarterback on par with that, and everybody knows it.

Props for bringing back Sridhar.

Didn't Nix also take over for Sridhar at Auburn?

Great pro attitude.

Also that Denver job will be available before the trade deadline.

This sort of falls into what Tom Brady talked about this weekend on someone's show or podcast. I don't remember whose it was but Brady was talking about gone are the days for a QB to sit and learn. Both in the pros but also college. He talked about how he sat both at Michigan and NE before he became the starter and how valuable that was to him to learn, get reps, watch film, get coaching and learn to do things he didn't know in practice and then doing them in games. He talked about how the pressure is there at both levels for the highly rated guys to start right away and win right away or they (and the coach) are gone.

Yep. If you get picked in the first round or thereabouts in the modern NFL, you've got about three games to sit behind the starter and learn before they throw you to the wolves. The NFL as a whole also seems less risk averse with drafting quarterbacks than they used to be. People don't mind swinging for the fences on prospects like Anthony Richardson (physical freak, major accuracy issues, major injury issues, played like 10 games of football his whole life etc.) or even Bryce Young (smallest quarterback taken no 1 in probably forever)

He's a competitor and wants to start…good for him.

I'd also take a peek at Colt McCoy who turned his NFL experience mostly as a backup into a very lucrative career.

Not what you want but not a bad ending either.

I mean even practice squad players are making like 13k a week. There's worse gigs out there than a back up

Chase Daniels is a great example of career backup that made great money. He made something like $40+ million in his career. He isn't beat up and if he was smart has tons of money saved up for the future.

Our own Cody Carlson had a pretty lucrative career backing up Warren Moon of the Houston Oilers.

Jordan Love the last guy to sit and he's viewed as some oddity. Played quite well last year. Falcons looking to do it with Penix.

Teams have gotten into trying to milk rookie contracts. QB's get the fattest deals so teams now hope to get a CJ Stroud or Brock Purdy on a rookie deal and load up at other positions. Understandable but wouldn't be surprised if Love and Penix workout long term if more teams start to consider sitting guys.
