The official Baylor Athletics account posts this but nothing else? Isn't that Scott Drew?

When you see Tang at MiCasita at "the table" - then you will know.

You can never go home again. What worked once does not automatically work again.

At this point, I'm more worried about a fired-up K-State team beating us tomorrow.

It's still well worth a try. We've played **** defense since he left with a variety of well-thought of assistants in that chair. Might as well see if the magic can be recreated.

Correct.

It seems like every time some school gets into these situations, Baylor is ALWAYS the next team they play. It is uncanny.

I did, once. It worked better the second time than the first. Much.

K State can beat us regardless of whether they are fired up.

It might depend on how much he can settle the lawsuit for. If he gets 50% or more ($9 million'ish) and given what he's made the past 3-4 years, he's pretty much set financially. The pay differential in basketball between a Power 4 head coach and a Power 4 assistant coach is dramatic. I saw a podcast recently where Kansas State podcasters were complaining that Tang's assistant head coach (Moorfield?) was making $500k. I don't know what Tang was making when he left Baylor, but I assume it was in that range or perhaps more.

I'm not sure what a head coach at the next level down makes....maybe $1 million or so?

If Tang's not chasing money and if he doesn't want to continue as a head coach, returning to Baylor is logical. He turns 60 in October. Drew turns 56 in October. Maybe a bit less pressure would feel good?

I'd like to see him return to prove that you can go home again.

When KState beats Baylor tonight.....without Tang.......then even the dumbest of you will know: It is and has been Drew all along.

He's no true coach - just smartly surrounded himself with excellent Xs-n-Os coaches while he raw-raw'ed and built the marketing around Baylor Mens Basketball.

Clowns always be Clowns.....it's up to the rest of us to see the differentiation.

And in case you're get my drift wrong: Should Tang be hired back? ABSOLUTELY YES! Drew needs him back to bring quality coaching back to Baylor.

Think of it as you would any big time corporate organization (which NCAA DIV-I sports now is). You need a President/CEO who drives culture, public persona, customer relations, and handles the press.......while equally needing actual execution lieutenants who make the organization succeed.

McCasland / Jakus / Brooks / Tang - that was an all-time/HoF level staff. Drew deserves credit as a program builder, creating the culture and getting those guys to buy-in wholeheartedly.

Can he recreate that level of coaching magic, while also finding a way to build some roster continuity year-over-year for the next half decade to build to another natty or two? I believe he can, but it's certainly not a fait accompli.
historian

Definitely possible but it's likely we will never have another natty. I would be happy to make a few trips to S16 and the occasional E8 & F4.

It was way more than likely we would never beat OU in football. Until we did.

Good point. Thankfully, we beat OU at football multiple times, including twice in Norman!

I definitely would like to see another natty (WBB too!) but I will be content with the one if we participate in March Madness regularly with frequent games in the second weekend. I'm looking at the flip side: most schools don't even have one natty. I also remember how special that 2021 team was. That would be impossible to repeat.

I just want people to take a step back before someone does something stupid (vandalizes his house.. bully his kids at school etc .) and realize we've had a pretty good run and sports is cyclical at every level.

Hes earned a chance to turn it around next year.. but another season like this and the question has to be definitely asked.

No sane fan or person should be doing anything to Drew on a personal level. This is after all just a sport. Drew is human like all of us.
He's definitely deserves in his fair share of criticism for this season. That's it, anything beyond that is low life ****

tang helped build baylor mbb. i hope he returns to drew's staff. i've always like scott since his short stay at valpo. consistent 20-game winners are not easy to find.

as for jerome, probably better on the bench than the head dude. he caught fire in a bottle the first e8 year. since then it's been dysfunctional up here. cringe worthy at times.

in this day and age, his style of motivation maybe can work when its kept entirely in-house, behind closed doors. When he's publicly beefing with the Uni Prez and his own team, that's not good Head Coaching.

I think his unfiltered passion needs to be balanced by other voices, and when a fiery guy like him is the boss...finding that balance is tough.

FWIW, seems clear in hindsight that it wasn't just players coming through the program...Scott really did have the best staff in all of college basketball in in the late teens through '21.

I don't think anyone will have to ask any questions. I think Scott will do like Jay Wright and ride off into the sunset if there is another year like this one. For the first time in his career, he often looks drained after games when he's being interviewed. He doesn't look like he's having much fun in the new era. If he pours his soul into it again and comes up empty next year, I think he'll move on to the next phase in his life. Baylor will never have to fire Scott Drew, nor do I think Baylor would.

That's obvious.. but as we know.. fan is short for fanatic..

I just think we need to turn down the temperature on this piling on Drew.. for now.. there ain't nothing more.. me.. you.. or anyone can add to the discussion.. or change anything..

These constant posts that he's just mailing it in.. or just cashing checks.. or just doesn't care.. are ridiculous.. if you anything about the man.. those are farthest from the truth...

He's just having a difficult time adjusting to this new era... A new era that HOF coaches like Coach K and Jay Wright and Tony Bennett didn't even try to compete in.

Explain what you're talking about.

We're not Bama in the fact we don't have a crazed fanbase like the guy who poisoned the Auburn Tree?

Or our basketball program is not at the level Alabama football was under Saban?

I couldn't agree more. CSD has seemed tired and defeated. NIL / transfer portal had destroyed what he does best which is player development over a 3-4 year period.
