More than Stanford?
Their crowds were better under Sumlin and Herman, but they've always struggled with attendance. They don't quite rival SMU for lack of fan interest, but it's far lower than it should be given what they've accomplished in the big two sports in the modern era.historian said:
It often seems that Houston fans just don't care that much, even when they are good. I don't recall clearly, but did their football team draw large crowds when they had good seasons under one recent coach? His name escapes me but he did end up at Texas.

Briles started the turnaround, but they reached much higher heights under both Sumlin and Herman. Briles wasn't at Houston long enough to get to that point.Alf said:bear2be2 said:Their crowds were better under Sumlin and Herman, but they've always struggled with attendance. They also had coach in the mid 00's that had some success. He also took a job in the Big 12. His name escapes me for some reason
They had Andre Ware success not right before but not that long before the Texans came to Houston...and stillboykin_spaniel said:
If UH had been able have Case Keemun success before the Texans showed up I wonder if they'd struggle as much as they do
Andre was 1989. Oilers left town in 1996. Texans arrived in 2002.johnnychimpo said:They had Andre Ware success not right before but not that long before the Texans came to Houston...and stillboykin_spaniel said:

I was told by a copious amount of UH supporters that just getting them into the Big 12 would just fix everything after SWC evaporated.
Conference affiliation would have a much larger impact to other regional G5s but at Houston Coogie High always gonna be a juvenile act.

Yes, like a bear2 said, the crowds were decent under Sumlin and Herman, but that's a relative term. they've always had attendance issues. In their defense, part of this is because they went years where they weren't really playing a lot of relevant local teams. None of our fans would care about playing Tulsa, Tulane, Temple etc. Houston is very much a pro sports city, the Texans are a hot ticket right now, and UH football is still fourth or fifth in the city behind LSU, A&M, and UT at the very least.

Those are good reasons for Houston NOT joining the conference.
Except that Cincy sells out every game for football (and has already sold out of hoops season tickets), and UCF sells out most games. There's one that's not like the other.Daveisabovereproach said:historian said:Daveisabovereproach said:historian said:

I didn't really want them. In fact, none of our additions from the first wave were very good except for BYU. just about everything that can be said about U of H can be said about Cincinnati and UCF
Give it some time for Sampson and Landry's to pull out and they'll be on their way back to reality that they aren't that entirely too far away from.historian said:
At least their MBB program is good.
