The thing that kills me is this is freaking year 5 for him.

Somehow most of us (myself included) have been Stockholm Syndromed in to thinking if Dave gets to 6 wins this year and a bowl game he can stay.

If we aspire to once again becoming a program that matters then getting to 6 wins in year 5 should not be the bar.

Year 5 is when his stamp should firmly be on the program....and I'm afraid it is.

#firedave

Exactly. All off-season, the PR arm of the athletic department gaslit the fans into thinking that six wins would be a huge accomplishment in year five. Six wins in this crappy conference SUCKS. This current squad is easily capable of 8-9 wins in this conference, but we have zero chance of getting there with Dave at the helm, so six wins probably would be a big accomplishment

You may be correct, but I'm not sure of that. We can't run the ball and it's hard to win 8 games when you can't run the ball.

They absolutely are capable from a talent perspective relative to the whole conference. If you gave the Kansas State or Utah coach this squad, they would probably have a bit of a drop off, but it would not be as much as people think.

Now with Dave leading the squad? Yeah, we're a five or six win team at best

I agree with this. Young teams often lack the killer instinct to finish the game but that was last year. We now have guys with lots of reps and while they occasionally still make young player mistakes they also seem to be put in poor positions with play calling. We're like the spread team that on 4th and goal decides to line up under center in I-formation for the first time all season and unsurprisingly gets stuffed or there's a poor ball exchange because that style of play isn't what the team is coached in.

We have the talent to be in the conference race in November. I've seen it flash in every game this year. Barring winning the next 4 in a row we won't be in the race because we can't play complete games. Slow starts or conservative finishes.

He says he takes full responsibility… Mack are you listening?

He didn't accept responsibility. He blamed the players for not running the play properly. Then said that the players screwing up was on him because he could have coached them better.

Such BS!

HE called the wrong play! There's a reason no one, and I mean no one, runs a rush 5 press man on a Hail Mary. He messed up and is too weak to be a man and accept responsibility. I have lost all respect for that fool.

st think standards are very low amongst the powers that be. I remember that there was an interview with Linda a couple years back where she was talking up our six win season like it was a big accomplishment.

So basically what you're saying is we need to take a long nap and wait for a new administration to come around 2030.

This. Linda has to go. Mack has to go. Dave has to go. Things will not improve till failing leadership is replaced, from the top down.

As far as Dave goes, it is worse than rhe lack of killer instinct. It is a fundamental inability to grasp Xs and Os that led to the inappropriate positioning of the defense that let rhe game get to overtime in the first place. Going for two when it was not appropriate. Poor clock management.

Actually, I think Todd Orlando does. He might run a zero blitz. Don't think Texas will ever forget Jamar Chase being left in single coverage.

The next 4 are #22 BYU who just curb stomped the presumed conference champs, at #18 Iowa State who has already beaten Iowa in the trenches, at Texas Tech who spreads Raider Rash, and #20 Oklahoma State who has beaten Arkansas this year.

I will cheer for the Bears. We may be 0-4 for our next 4 games. This conference ain't for lightweights.

If we play complete games we have the ability to beat each of those teams. No one has seen our ability to play complete games though. I will cheer for the Bears to win each of those games but I'm not going to Vegas and putting money on them.

You're better than I. I won't bother watching.
Complete games are a foreign concept to Aranda.

I'll watch and root for the Bears to win. But the burden of proof for Aranda is so high for me right now that it's basically unattainable.

I think he's a ****ty coach. Full stop. And once you reach the point that you've lost all faith and confidence in a coach, it's virtually impossible to get it back.

I just don't see the 8 winnable games on our schedule. Before yesterday, we were 2-0 against teams without FBS talent and 0-1 against teams with it. Now we're 0-2 against teams with FBS talent and with the clear exception of Houston most of the teams on schedule have just as much and a better coaching staff. Oh and 3 of our next 4 opponents are in the top 25. So the odds of them being 2-6 in a month when TCU comes to town is pretty high.

Anyone still pumping out a "I can see 5 or 6 wins" is pure football dumb.

This was a 4-win ceiling team before the Colorado game; 5-wins maybe with a Miracle on the Brazos type game where luck and a really bad referee call or two would favor the Bears.

Colorado was one of the probable 4 wins. But now, Yoda has shown us that he's giving us another 3-win season. Aranda is terrible, and the players deserve better than him. There is no more debate on that now.

You can be the nicest, faith-based man and still be a ruthless competitor competing for championships. See Scott Drew. Aranda just doesn't have it and Rhoades doesn't want to admit he hired the wrong guy.

Mack Rhoades. He is the real loser here.

Eight years of overpaid mediocrity.

Blame Dave all you want and I'm no big fan, but if Hankins doesn't shank the FG and/or our idiot DBs just run over and knock the ball down, we aren't having this conversation.

Shankins was only asked to kick a 46-yarder because our coaching staff viewed that kick as a gimme and didn't even try to push deeper into Colorado territory.

After that return by Cameron, we literally went backwards running the ball three times. It was more cowardly play-calling from a staff that's afraid to win.

Yes, the genesis of the problem last night was cowardly play calling. All the other problems emanated from the fact that Aranda has proven over and over that he cowers in crunch time.

if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle. This team played well enough to win and was let down in critical moments by bad coaching decisions.

These players are not good enough to overcome poor coaching. Rhules guys were in 21…these guys are not.

Hankins shouldn't have had to kick a 46 yarder. It should've been a touchdown or under 40 yards. As mentioned above we also wasted 4 points on Josh Cameron's awesome punt return with conservative play calling.

Dave is a very good DC. He is now his own third DC in 5 years because he can't manage a staff. We are on our third OC in 5 years because he can't manage a staff.

He does not currently have the skill set to run a team. We have no identity. We are a collection of spare parts. We don't know who or what we are. No discernable culture. Don't know how to win. It's time to move on.

This is the inherent risk in hiring a career assistant for his first HC job, as opposed to going FCS level and hiring a proven HC (like Kansas State did). This is Rhoad's mistake, and he should go down with it.

The worst part of it is, Aranda is a damn good Defensive Coordinator. We're going to be paying him an absolute ass load of money to coach a P5 defense next year, and he's going to be doing it well. He's just not cut out to be a HC, sadly.

This was Rhoades trying to be the smartest person in the room, as usual. And it's backfired bigly.
Bigly was a nice choice.

Drop 8, rush 3…put 8 DBs in zone defense on the 1 yard line. Tell them to play volleyball when the ball is in the air. It takes 4 seconds from release to catch. All 8 of your DBs should be able to get to the ball in that time if they start with their feet in the end zone. If they commit PI, run the same play again because it's only a 15 yard penalty.

Yep. Basically any Pop Warner coach knows that.
