"The International Football Alliance, a new spring professional league with three teams in the United States and three in Mexico, has hired former Baylor coach Art Briles as the head coach of its Dallas team, league officials said on Thursday.
In addition, league sources say they are in negotiations with former Washington State coach Nick Rolovich to coach another team.
The IFA, which plans to begin play in June 2024, will feature two teams in Texas -- in Dallas and another market yet to be determined -- and one in San Diego. The teams in Mexico will be located in Cancun, Guadalajara and Chihuahua.
In addition to Briles and Rolovich, Hal Mumme, the originator of the Air Raid offense, will coach one of the Mexican teams."
It would be tough to get him to make a lateral move and leave the Pioneros to come back to Waco.
That having been said with Briles and Hal Mumme in the league the on field product is going to be a good bit better than what Dave has been serving up.

2. I'll admit Baylor was viewed as not ready for prime time and some were afraid we would knock out a blue blood program. National media is also hard on '"church" schools.
3. To become or considered nationwide as a perennial national football power you need to tee up and defeat programs a little bit north of Sam Houston, Buffalo, NW State, Stephen F, ULM, Wofford Terriers, etc.
4. It also helps to beat your bowl opponent. Losing to a commuter school like UCF in the Fiesta and allowing Michigan State to score 21 on you in the 4th Q of the Cotton does not quite qualify as the results you see from a perennial national football power.

I suspect that was subconsciously behind Neal Jeffrey's participation in the lynching. Much like the powers in Waco, Baylor powers would rather be big fish in a little pond than make the pond bigger. Briles was well on his way to reaching new heights and enabling Baylor to stop pining over one successful season in 1974.
