bear2be2 said:100 percent. Vandy said, "We're not giving Alabama the ball back," and went and played for the three first downs it needed to win. It was a thing of beauty.Guitarbiscuit said:
Slavital needs to watch this film as a lesson on how to put teams away, which entails not running 3 consecutive run plays.
I think the Vandy staff knew that if they gave Alabama the ball back, they were probably losing that game. That's just the reality of the situation with the way Alabama was moving the ball in the second half.Johnny Bear said:bear2be2 said:100 percent. I know "the book" says run the ball in that situation, but it was great that the Vandy coaches realized they weren't going to get the 2 first downs they needed to seal it against a defense like
Bama's by following "the book", especially when they're locked in to stop the run. They just effectively said "to hell with the book, we're taking the risk and throwing it", or put another way, "we're playing to win instead of playing not to lose". Our pathetic coaches could learn so much from this.
And it got dug out and will be returned to the school. Likely to be cut up an sold as a keepsake. The proceeds will help offset the SEC's field storming fine.Guitarbiscuit said:
Well they ended up throwing it into the river.
They're not going to turn down free money. Why pay the fine with your own money when the fans who caused it will pay it for you? And get a pretty cool piece of history in the process.Killing Floor said:
Vanderbilt doesn't need the cash.
The serve a purpose beyond that too. Networks use rankings to help push their products, news and to provide talking points.morethanhecouldbear said:
Watching Vandy beat Alabama is a reminder that rankings are pointless and serve no purpose other than to give big name schools and/or a conference like the sec the benefit of the doubt.
Absolutely dying at the police helicopter night vision of the Vandy goal posts going into the river… the kids tumbling over each ledge 💀 pic.twitter.com/KoXmOnBTc7

They'll likely raise lots of money off Saturday's win. But they are auctioning off a lot of keepsakes from that game, including pieces of the goalposts.historian said:bear2be2 said:They're not going to turn down free money. One BMD might ping up the funds for the fine with one check.

Yes, it's a clever fundraiser. My point is that it might not be necessary from a strictly fiscal standpoint.

So you don't think Alabama is one of the best teams in the country? Every AP voter knows Bama would beat Vandy tomorrow.morethanhecouldbear said:
