I remember him talking about it with past coaches, and he said something to the effect that he always has a few candidates in mind.

He's too late.

I don't believe Mack is as bad as others think he is, as my opinion of him changed just a bit when he stood up for Scott Drew when he got that bogus ejection. He proved he does have emotion and does care. That said, he did mess up on Aranda. And I'd be very surprised if he wasn't speaking with a couple potential candidates right now.
