Thought of this today:

overall be happy with watching football and just let it go. This is the worst its going to be. We've lost on hail
marries, we've given up leads, we've gotten pounded, we gave up on a great comeback. This is the worst it can get. I'm excited because it can only get better at this point.

By the way:

hopefully we can pull cignatti

If I learned anything at Baylor from 2001-2005 it is that it can get much worse

Right!?!
It's a children's game played by adults. Who cares what the score is? It's not like it has 9-figure economic ripples for Baylor. Just be happy to be in central Texas on a beautiful day. Go Bears. If you had fun, you won.

We haven't played TCU, UH, or KU… it can get soooo much worse.

Pursuing mediocrity is the worst it can get, and each year of achieving that is worse than the prior. So yes it can get worse.

In light of what type of program we could be based on our programs real world achievements, resources, and capabilities, I actually think keeping a nice guy but terrible coach for years ensuring long term mediocrity is the worst it can be.
We're in year 5 of a head-coach that can't coach, 5 more to go. It's going to get worse. Pursuing mediocrity is the worst, and each subsequent year is worse than the prior. Our national prominence is gone. WRU is a squandered brand. We have no team identity. Irrelevant everywhere.

The sport has pretty much been ruined for me. Used to binge watch college football for hours on Saturday. Not so much anymore. It's not just that we're bad, it's that we are completely irrelevant in the modern landscape of football. If we were a well coached team with an inability to get talent like a Service Academy, I would be more understanding, but overpaying coaches and paying players to poop the bed week after week has a way of demoralizing you. But hey, it is just a game and there's certainly more important things in life, I agree with that premise

I appreciate your effort and your attitude.

But things can always get worse. And they probably will here. But it won't be *that* much worse because, to your point, we are already totally irrelevant and losing every week.

And then, yes, things probably will eventually improve. At least for a time.

We never were WRU. We have exactly one (1) Biletnikoff winner in our history. I agree with you that our program is underachieving right now. But I think you are certainly overvaluing what our brand and "national prominence" are.

Cignatti could do what Art did for Baylor at Indiana and disrupt the Big 10 and the national rankings. He doesn't need Baylor to do that. Expectations aren't high at Indiana just like they aren't at Baylor.

That would actually be awesome to watch happen. Would prefer he, or someone like him , do it at BU.

The only optimistic thing for Baylor fans is that we're one week closer to November 4th and Scott Drew time, a man who actually knows how to recruit, coach and elevate his players.

The only football related thing I am looking forward to is a final ruling in the Austin American lawsuit against UT forcing them to release disciplinary records for their athletes.

And that's like 18 months away.

OK, and I think you undervalue our brand. We absolutely were on our way and we were known for our fast offense and WRs. Even for years after the debacle, commentators were still talking about our renowned fast paced offense. We had the opportunity to build on it. Instead Mack chose a mule over a stallion.

I just hope we have enough fans against Okla St or TCU in the slight chance we will to take the goalposts and dump them either in the marina or Brazos River.

I would imagine - once Aranda is gone - the new coach would need to build a new system. Unless we got a super stud coach (seems inconceivable for Baylor now) we will likely take a step back before we get better. This means we would likely not even be in games until the reorganization could fully take place. But I think we'd be willing to give a new coach a year or two (but not 5).

Sure.

Problem is if Dave is here we'll be 2-3 wins next year too. So we're not really losing out if we have to rebuild.

Nah, I think we may have the resources to bring in some talent so we can win a couple more games. Just means more years of mediocrity.

So, what you're saying is that UT will have had plenty of time to "doctor" the records should they be forced to show them?

Reverend said:

Who said anything about them being "lucky"? I just said that we weren't "WRU." We had a run between 2009-2016 where we had multiple all-conference receivers, several of whom were on the team at the same time. It was awesome, I was there for it. Loved every second. Would absolutely love to return to that. But that doesn't make us WRU. There are a lot of schools who have had that same kind of success over a longer sustained period and whose receivers have turned into top flight NFL talent, which we also haven't done consistently.

That's going to be a little hard to do if the records say they were suspended or expelled, but they were also playing in a game.

Cignetti isn't coming here, we missed the boat on that one.

Not only was he just hired by Indiana, but the fact is that even sorry ass big 10 programs make 2x (if not more) as much money as we do. Rutgers, Indiana, Purdue, Northwestern - all of them. Northwestern is building an $800,000,000 stadium!

BTW, Cignetti was just paid a 3.5M dollar bonus as well as another year on his contract for getting Indiana bowl eligible.

The problem is that we were fortunate to be close in the Colorado and BYU games. Our win probability for the Colorado game was only 13.3% based on how we played, and it was 23.4% for BYU. Winning either of those games would've been lucky. This team just hasn't played well in any of our losses. Those games shouldn't have been as close as they were.

At some point in serious disease processes, there is no recovery because there is no outside saving resource (league/tv $$), and there is nothing within your "organism"(body) which can salvage and set you back on the road to health.
