SP+ is more efficiency-based, so that makes sense (a defense which is efficient but gives up big plays will rate higher in SP+ than other systems)

Defense is ass. Had an up close in person view of the suckage Saturday night. Dave is trash at developing a defensive strategy when teams aren't one dimensional

Yeah, our defense sucks. We're pretty good against the run on a down to down basis, but don't tackle well enough to be a shut down unit, and we're absolute ass against the pass because our safety play is borderline incompetent.

You were misled. I think he's an above average defensive mind when the opponent is 1 dimensional. He's clueless against multi dimensional offenses

He might be a cerebral d guru but he lost this team because he has zero emotional intelligence to lift this team up when they are down. He should be a guy who does statistics and comes up with plays behind closed doors and kept far away from players because he has zero fing leadership skills.

These kids aren't capable of defending big plays or executing big plays on offense statistically.

That tracks with the loss to CU, BYU and Utah. They don't know how to be clutch and that's 100% on coaching.

Tackling is poor, strength isn't there and there's a lot of failed assignments. It's lazy. I think the coaches aren't holding these kids accountable for failure nor holding them to a higher standard.

I am confused at the poor fundamentals displayed by the secondary
It doesn't appear that good solid teaching is going on

It's pretty wild to watch team after team concert on 3rd and long so often against us.

I'm still waiting to hear from all the mouths who came at me when I said it wasn't a good D and it would be reflected soon when it was evident the D's stats were solely a product of playing a FCS school and two schools whose QBs couldn't throw down the field more than 5 yards. Funny thing. Those folks are awfully quiet now.

I remember the quotes. It's a lock down D!

It's easier to be a defensive guru when you recruit studs.

Bottom line is we keep landing guys that LSU wouldn't even call.

It's hard to be overjoyed when we beat out Old Dominion for a player.

I'm not sure there's any teaching at all going on, solid or not.

There's a lack of 11 dudes playing in cohesion. When we make a nice stop it's often one guy making the tackle. Watch other teams and 5-6 guys swarm the ball with energy.
