Baylor Football Trio Honored by Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award
TYLER, Texas – Baylor football redshirt junior quarterback Sawyer Robertson, redshirt junior wide receiver Josh Cameron and redshirt freshman running back Bryson Washington have been recognized by the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award for their performances in Week Eight against Texas Tech, as announced Tuesday by the organization.
Robertson was named the award’s player of the week, while Cameron and Washington were each named to the honorable mention list.
After receiving Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week praise, the accolades continue for Robertson, who threw for 274 yards and a career-high five touchdowns in Saturday’s 59-35 win at Texas Tech. In his hometown of Lubbock, Texas, Robertson became the first Bear in nine seasons to throw for five TDs as Seth Russell was the last to do so on Oct. 17, 2015, vs. West Virginia. This marked the BU signal caller’s third consecutive game with at least three passing touchdowns. Robertson now leads the Big 12 with an 83.8 QBR and has thrown for 1,319 yards and 14 touchdowns this season with just three interceptions.
Cameron erupted for a career-high three touchdowns on six receptions for 75 yards and added an electric 73-yard punt return inside the Tech 1-yard line, setting up one of Washington’s two rushing scores on the day. Cameron became the first Bear to catch three touchdowns in a single game since Denzel Mims did so against UTSA on Sept. 7, 2019. The product of Cedar Park, Texas, now leads the Bears with 24 receptions, 352 receiving yards and seven TDs, the most by a BU wideout since Tyquan Thornton caught 10 in 2021. Additionally, Cameron leads the country with a 22.5-yard punt return average and has totaled a nation-leading 248 punt return yards
On just 10 carries, Washington ran for a career-high 116 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday’s victory. He exploded for long runs of 44 and 34 yards but punched in a pair of 1-yard scores to add to the tally. His efforts helped the Bears to a season-high 59 points, the most in a Big 12 game under fifth-year head coach Dave Aranda and most since scoring 61 at Kansas on Nov. 30, 2019. BU’s 59 points were also the most by an FBS program in Week Eight and tied for the most in a conference game by a Power Four team this season. This marked Washington’s second 100-yard effort of the season as he now leads the Bears with 302 yards on the ground in 2024 to go along with three TDs.
