These are both guys that several here....including myself....have had on our radar as possible hires if Dave were to be let go.

I don't know if they have had some key injuries or something...but neither has gotten off to a very good start. Both were expected to compete for conference titles before the year started.

UTSA is currently 3-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play. Yesterday they were 10 point favorites to a Tulsa team that came in to the game with a 2-5 record. UTSA held a 42-17 lead with 5 minutes left in Q3 and still managed to lose.

Tx St has not been quite as big of a flop...but still not dominating like they were expected to coming into the year. They are 4-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play. Yesterday they were 10.5 favorites against a 3-4 Old Dominion team. They ended up getting beat 14-24.

It'll be interesting to see if they can pick things up as they get deeper into conference play.

TxSt came in as 4 point favorites at home against Louisiana tonight.

TxSt ends up losing 17-23. TxSt QB Jordan McCloud left in the first half with an injury. Former Baylor back up RJ Martinez played the rest of the game.

TxSt now 4-4 and 2-2 in conference.

It's funny, much has been made about UTSA's offense after graduating Frank Harris, but both Owen McCown and their offense have turned out to be pretty decent after a rocky start.

It's that team's defense that has completely betrayed it the past several games. If they make one clutch stop against both Rice and Tulsa, they're sitting at 5-3 right now instead of 3-5.

Tx St should have never been favored in that game. Louisiana is the best team in the SB conference

Said this several weeks ago to watch for them out of the G5. Their next 3 are at home. I think they win out and finish 12-1. Whether or not that's enough will depend on Boise dropping a game.

Boise will win out bc the hardest game they had left was last week agansit UNLV. We have to see how Army does and if they somehow knock off ND or even a close loss to ND will create some chaos for that spot.

Traylor's Roadrunners are up 10 on Memphis with less than 10 minutes to play. I can't say I saw that one coming.

But they have to finish it off, which is something they couldn't do against Rice and Tulsa.

Loaded up on UTSA Ml at +410 unbeaten at home I believe and Memphis is the worst 7-1 team I've ever seen.

UTSA's schedule is interesting. They've got their next two games at home, where they've played well. If they beat UNT and Temple, they can secure a bowl berth before the Army game to close the regular season.

I've got a parlay with UTSA ML here and Falcons -3.5 over cowboys tomorrow. First leg looking good so far.

UTSA hangs on. Nice upset win for Traylor. Maybe they can get on a hot streak.

I've been paying closer attention to UTSA than most -- I don't blame anyone for not watching this team, haha -- but I've been talking about this past few weeks. McCown has made some serious progress this year and has played really well since the Texas loss.

Other than the ECU game, where he was really bad, he's been consistently good in conference play. They had late leads over Rice and Tulsa that the defense couldn't protect. They would be 6-3 right now with even a decent defense.

After losing 2 of the starting OL from a cohesive unit last year, starting all conference talent RT has been out the entire season. 2 man wrecking crew DEs..one has been sitting the season out to get an extra year of eligibility -!; the other got into some trouble… may not seem like much but the entire team (even the offense) relied on negative plays which hasn't happened the last 2 games.

In other coach news, Matt Rhule and Nebraska started off 5-1, and have since lost 3 straight to fall to 5-4. Their finishing stretch is @USC, vs Wisconsin, @Iowa, so they could legitimately lose out and miss out on a bowl game for the 8th straight season. Just staggering for a program with that history and level of institutional support.

I appreciate what Rhule accomplished here, because he proved that Baylor can win in the modern era post-Briles, which was very much in doubt. He left the program in much better shape than he found it, and he's a good man. All of that said, it's become evident that he has a problematic relationship with the offensive side of the ball. He's about to plow through yet another offensive coordinator in Marcus Satterfield, and he's in danger of losing the Nebraska fanbase after season 2.

Some jaw-dropping stats:

Nebraska's last bowl game was 2016, when they lost to Tennessee in the Music City Bowl. They have the longest bowl drought in the P5.

Nebraska hasn't had a game winning drive since 2018 (vs. Iowa). In contrast, Baylor hasn't had one in 2 days.

In their last 8 overtime games, Nebraska had scored 0 points. 8 drives starting at the 25 yard line. No points of any kind. Shocking levels of incompetence.

Texas State also held a 14 point lead a few seconds until half against ASU and a 22 point lead over SHSU before the bubble screens showed up on the playbook. Texas State should be at least 6-2 if not 7-1

Raiola has been really bad the past four games. They've got to get him right or they're going to have trouble winning games down the stretch.

The good thing for them is those final three games don't look nearly as daunting now as they did three or four weeks ago. USC is as cursed as they are in close games, Wisconsin really isn't very good and it's possible to beat Iowa with 21 points.

But they're going to have to play much better than they have been to win those games.

There should have never been a book on Kinne in the first place. He would be the absolute wrong hire.

Agree, Kevin Steele should be the hire. Only a 22 yr HC gap.

We won't be hiring him, as our coach as earned his return for 2025, but Jeff Traylor is a really good football coach. His in-season turnaround has been every bit as impressive as Dave's -- and just as unlikely after tough losses to Rice and Tulsa.

I hope Traylor gets a P5 opportunity someday soon if he wants it. And I hope it's with a program we don't play conference games against.

Kinne put up over 700 uards of offense just after the 3rd quarter runs over tackle for the better part of the last quarter and still wins by 55

I'm not sure how this salary compares in the G5 world… But I'm guessing it's pretty competitive.

Indeed. Oregon State pays $2M, Wazzu pays around $2.5M, Memphis $2.2M and Boise pays $1.1M. Liberty, Tulane and UTSA are the only outliers significantly above

Love Jeff Traylor. Great coach. Great person. He deserves much better than a Baylor Football head coaching job. BU has been quoted as saying "We are not an institution of football." A plain but honest message.
