Even if people randomly post Bears who enter the portal, that thread has a different purpose.

"Here's a thread to keep track of who we might be pursuing and who we sign".

Yes. Recruited as an athlete from what I remember and never really found his position.

That Florida number is impressive. You wouldn't expect Georgia, Tennessee and Texas to have many transfers since they made the playoff and are going to be competing for a title. But for a program that has struggled lately and entered this season with what was thought to be a lame duck coach to only lose four guys speaks well of what Napier and his staff are doing and the culture they're building.

This has become a trend under Aranda. It was even true last year following a dismal three-win season.

Dave has done a good job of keeping players in our program.

Aranda did a great job with player retention last year also. I think that and the 2025 recruiting class he was building is part of what helped him to hang on to his job during the time the on field results were looking so bad.

I think credit also goes to David Kaye and whoever else is helping to upgrade our NIL approach.

I thought they competed well against a brutal schedule. They played really hard for Napier through a lot of injuries to key players.

Agree look who else ranks in the neighborhood of Aranda of retaining players. Sark and Kirby Smart, Aranda is in decent company.

Teams that are in the playoff generally don't lose many players before those games, so that's not surprising in those cases.

I'm more impressed by those who aren't in the playoff who have similar numbers. That speaks highly of those coaches and the culture they've built.

It's good to see when a talented player decides to stay put despite the possibility of making more money elsewhere. Good for ISU.

For Texas' sake, this is largely how you'd hope the portal will work. Kids are getting honest assessments from the coaching staff about their future with Texas. Some are obviously heirs apparent to those declaring or out of eligibility. Some will get goals and things they need to work on in order to be considered for playing time rotation. Still others will be told that there's no viable path to playing time. If they're OK with that, then they'll stay on scholarship and keep going.

Otherwise, they're free to hit the portal and seek playing time elsewhere, rather than being tied forever to a seat on the bench.

We know tampering goes on, but this statement certainly bolsters the notion. How can a player be "pursued" if they haven't entered the portal.

It goes to show that no matter how much more is given toward "allowing the players to be justly compensated for their services" that any "fence" that is set up to even remotely keep it in control is ripped down with no real consequences for going well beyond "pushing the envelope" as any rules that might be in place are ignored.

If something doesn't change why will we not eventually see a player going into the locker room at half time in one jersey and coming out for the second half in another? That may be seem completely farcical, but are we really that far away from it? The way things are heading in NCAA football, a player may feel like they are being put in jail if they get into the NFL and have to live by a contract that restricts them from doing much of what they can do today concerning team jumping.

Been very critical of Aranda but I expect them to have the best retention in the conference. It's a trend now. Pretty clear the players are treated well and they feel that.

Hopefully he now has the balance between hard competition / winning and caring about the people in your program. He was too deep in the latter last few years and finally adjusted when it was do or leave.

From today's article on 365:

When asked how important it was for Baylor to turn things around this fall after going 3-9 last season, Aranda, who entered the year on the hot seat, said it all goes back to putting the focus on "winning games" from the beginning.

He said that, in the past, he spent too much time focusing on what was happening off the field in terms of academics and charity work, amongst other things. Aranda said he struggled and hesitated to shift the focus solely on football because he felt like, "You're selling out to a degree."

It's hard to argue with the results after the team closed the season with six straight wins and welcomed a top-35 recruiting class in the nation that boasts five four-star prospects.

"I changed as a result because of that," Aranda said. "I know our recruiting efforts reflected that. You see the results. I think it's hard because you want to be able to measure the tenure here of the ups and downs, but it's like a brand new tenure this past year with the focus and efforts on winning. To win, it all has to be about winning, and I think that's the big difference."

He is reading the boards! 'Person over player' was killing our program!
