Quinn Ewers is reportedly "debating" on returning to college football and forgoing

He throws more accurately, can extend plays with his feet and can outrun d1 cornerbacks. UT should start Arch because he's the best football player the horns have had since VY.
He's not going to go pro without some starter time. His family instilled more sense than that.

Arch is better. By a lot. As big a difference as Finn and Robertson. They're unfathomably separated talent-wise. Thanks to Mrs position at Ut we've attended a practice and been to a number of games. Was in the sideline during their UTSA game when Arch threw 4 and made his 68 yd scramble, flat out smoking the cornerbacks.
Arch would have started at Georgia or Ole Miss last year, he was offered that spot.
Quinn is pretty sketchy. His yards l come from right negative screens to running backs. He's a turnover machine too.
He has had some good games for sure.

Robertson is a much better passer than Ewers.

Lol, wut? I like Bohanon, but proven winner? He's spending his final year of eligibility as a reserve to a marginal starter at BYU.

The only thing I vividly remember about Bohanons time at QB here was the bone headed INT he threw with 1:05 left in the 4th against TCU while driving and in field goal range down by 2 points that likely cost us a shot at the playoff in 2021.

In fairness to him, Grimes was an idiot play caller on that drive (as per usual) running everything to the boundary. Of course TCU would have a defensove player sitting on the quick out covering the flats.

Better example actually comes from UT. Mack benching Major Applewhite for Chris Simms, only to watch Simms blow critical games.

That's the only thing you remember about him? Fanbases these days are so freaking spoiled. Conference championship, Sugar Bowl win and highest ranking ever, but the only thing you remember is his worst moment. Sheesh.

He didn't play in the conference championship game and his performance in the sugar bowl was nothing to remember. Apart from a pop pass to Baldwin I think he had 70 yards passing.

Look, I'm not going to degrade his performance and contributions to Baylor, but he wasn't taking the top off of any defenses. Until SR13 came along, bohanon was just like every other Baylor QB post Seth Russell. Forgettable at best.

"Look, I'm not going to degrade his performance and contributions to Baylor."

Well, that's kind of what you are doing.

Bottom Line: Bohanon was a great fit for the type of team we had at the time, and he was a winner. Period.

10-2 as a starter that season is 10-2, no matter how you slice it. We've had what, maybe 4 or 5 QB's in school history with 10+ wins in a season? And he's one of 'em. Hardly forgettable.

Also, only 3 Baylor QB's have beaten both Texas and OU in the same season. Guess who joined both RGIII and Bryce Petty on that list? Yep, that's right - Gerry Bohanon. And he wasn't just along for the ride in those games. He played a key role in both victories.

In fact, assuming he didn't get hurt in the Kansas State game - I don't think it's far-fetched to believe that we win the last 2 games (against Tech and OSU) comfortably with him at the helm. With Shapen, we were holding on for dear life.

And we saw how life was after Bohanon was prematurely shown the exit (I don't think it's a coincidence that Aranda went from being everyone's darling to being on a massively hot seat less than 2 years later).

You can downplay Bohanon's contributions all you want, but we aren't even in position to win the Big XII Title in 2021 without him.

How can he have a deal from another school when he is still playing for UT and hasn't entered the portal? Isn't that against the rules to recruit like that?

If not it should be. You should not be able to recruit players of another team that have not entered the portal. Sort of how you cannot recruit a pro player that is not a free agent or talk to ones who are about to be FA until a certain date.
I would bet there is deniability: no direct contact from a coach or recognized booster. My sense is there are a number of "agents" making contact on behalf of players and schools that said schools will claim they never heard of. NCAA has become an absentee parent situation.

You are comparing the NFL (where they have established rules that all of the teams have agreed to follow) to the NCAA (where there are almost no rules because they are flying by the seat of the pants following several court rulings). Until the NCAA and the participating schools set ground rules that they all agree to follow, it's going to be the Wild West. Unfortunately, the schools have very little incentive to agree to rules and the NCAA has very little power to force them to the table to talk.

If you're an average QB looking to get drafted, this is the year to do it. Slim pickings after Shedeur and Cam Ward.

True. There will be a few that have the name recognition because they played at blue bloods but they aren't projected to go high and a few that are probably pretty good and will go in the mid rounds but if a teams needs a late round QB this is the year to try.

Maybe that is why DJ U decided to enter the draft if the report I saw is correct.

It see this as the better option for him. I can't see how another year at MSU or Texas would help his draft position. Getting drafted in the 3-5th round means you might get picked up by a better team, you are much less likely to be thrown to the wolves as the starting QB day one on a bad team (woe to the QB pick of the Giants/Raiders), you have a chance to learn the game from players and coaches smarter than your college ones, and you may avoid the body trauma and the pocket yips that young QBs normally acquire in the NFL.

Nothing in P4…he would have to slide into a G5 school if he wanted to start.

Not saying this to be a hater. By comparative metrics of completions/accuracy, QBR, avg yards, red zone efficiency Ewers is the 34th best qb in division one and the 12th best in the CFP bracket.
And he's the only QB in the playoffs with negative red zone rushing yards.

Said before, he will spend every remaining day of his life regretting his decision to return to Texas. He went from Day 2 prospect to Day 3 at best, UDFA at worst and he's not going to get an offer to start for a top 25 program next year. He's good enough to start somewhere. Not a top team though.

According to the Austin American-Statesman:

Texas has an 88.2% touchdown rate when ARCH MANNING is running the offense. That would be the best in college football by a considerable margin. Altogether, Texas has a 66.1% red-zone touchdown rate 47th in the country. When Manning isn't involved, that drops to 60.5% which would rank 75th.

I think Manning is the more talented QB pretty much anyway you look at it. That said, he started 3 games this year and two were UTSA and UL Monroe. Kind of think his numbers go down vs. Georgia. If not, he's Mahomes.

He was definitely very talented, but Kingleberry wasn't a great head coach. Mahomes also had some of the weirdest pads and helmet fitting ever, like Tech couldn't find gear that fit him properly.

Beat us in Jerry's World in 2016--6 td passes. Talent was hard to miss (though Rivals and ESPN had him as a *** prospect out of high school). Tech was flat out awful on defense during his three years there, TCU put 82 on them one year. It seemed like Kingsbury just let Patrick fling it around, not much of a system. Credit Reid for recognizing the talent, and Mahomes for willing to learn from the master. Andy Reid got Philadelphia to the Championship game quite a few times with quarterbacks who on a good day would struggle hitting a barn. Reid knew how to build a winning offense, talent, system, and finally QB. As good as he is, if Mahomes had been drafted by the Jets or the Bears, chances are they would have cut him after 3 seasons.

As a freshman, Mahomes came in the 2014 game to replace the QB that Oakman had flattened late 2Q. Almost brought Tech all the way back; we were up 45-20 with 2 min to go in the 3rd and he completed 4 40yd+ TDs, the last one got Tech to 48-46 but we stopped the 2pt conversion and held on.

We squashed Tech like a bug in 2015 63-35. In 2016 we were in the post-WSJ article late season freefall and got blown out 54-35.

Tech went 4-8, 7-6 and 5-7 the 3 years Mahomes played.

4,600 yards as a sophomore and over 5,000 as a junior, over 50 touchdowns.

But Tech was still tech. They were 5-7 his best year. That's really the reason he slid under some people's radar.

Could make the same case for a lot of great players on average teams.
