Worth a listen. In another thread a poster said that Prime was more "old school" than most people thought. He sounds that way here.
I've got to admit, I've come around quite a bit on Deion. I still hate the flashy brand nonsense and don't understand why such a facade is necessary. But behind that facade, there's a lot more substance than I first thought.
I
hope he says at CU because I think he's good for those players (the ones he deems "good enough" to play for him, anyway) and he's good for the Big XII+4. The message he is sending here ... for the most part, is not needed (nor may be welcomed) at the next level (NFL) -- save a select few knuckleheads. It
is needed at the college level -- and especially if you want your NIL-earning players to represent your institution the right way and move on to become responsible stewards for what can be a frighteningly short playing career (with the spectre of career-ending injury always present).
But I
doubt he does -- because the second he gets a chance to coach one/both his kiddos (Shadeur or Shilo) at the next level, he gone IMO. Seems to be a good enough dude in general (in that he means well; I have no first-hand knowledge of his day-to-day character and not a huge fan of how he treats some media, but coaches gotta get their power trip on every now and again). And like Troy Aikman said the other day, he's earned his stripes in the coaching world at two stops now (whether or not he's an Xs/Os guy -- you don't always have to be) and Troy says to "never doubt (Deion) -- I've seen it too many times."
But at the end of the day ... Deion is ultimately a "me first" type. This is indisputable. Always has been (thus my "house o' cards" comments -- folks think he's gonna be CU's savior, my inner Lee Corso says "not so fast, my friend"). And leopards rarely change their spots ...
I mean ... I think he can be effective in most college-head coaching roles (not sure about the NFL -- those are two different birds entirely). But loyalty and commitment ... not exactly Deion's strong suit (then again, name a college coach these days who is strong in that category). I guess you could say that at least Deion isn't phony about that aspect of the business? Unlike some/several college coaches I can think of?
What is, is.
What was, will be.
What will be WAAAAS, but will be again.
