That's because the entire concept is flawed. The old major bowl games were always about winning them, and they were a big deal. the second tier bowls were quality matchups that got a lot of interest. We traded that for a fake playoff that is "anti-climactic" and hardly anyone is happy.

Not a great game. First quarter was great. ND wasn't ready for round two and the first part of round three. Late round three and round four were pretty solid, but it was never really in doubt after the second quarter. It got a little interesting, but OSU was clearly the better team.

I think the champ game should be the Saturday after New Years but it should be on a Saturday imo. The NFL should work around that bc college football is for Saturdays and it would give people the ability to tailgate, have a party, make bbq etc. This Monday night stuff just makes it so I sit at home on my couch bc I have to work the next morning.

Agree completely. I really liked this playoff format, but the college football postseason drags on way longer than it needs to.

Start the playoff the week after conference championship games and play every Saturday through championship week. That's how the postseason is handled at every other level of football.

It would be great if we could eliminate conference championship games. Not sure what a workaround would be, and they might be necessary if a conference is just getting one team in. However, when you know the top two teams are already getting in, it makes absolutely no sense for them to have to play each other in a championship game … It just postpones the real playoff another week and increases the risk of injury (see Carson Beck).

I think many casual sports fans just got playoff fatigue and just started following the NFL by the end

Calling 22.1 million a tiny number is idiotic. But we have to remember, Clay Travis is a rage-baiting dip*****

A) That's still a massive number for any live sporting event. In fact, it's the most-watched non-NFL sporting event of the past year.
B) It's not alarmingly less than recent title game audiences, which were as follows ...

2023 -- 25.1m
2022 -- 17.23m
2021 -- 22.563m
2020 --18.653m
2019 -- 25.588m
2018 --25.280m
2017 -- 28.443m
2016 -- 25.226m
2015 -- 26.182m
2014 -- 34.148m

I understand if you don't like him, but all he said was that it was the third lowest viewership in history, which was true.

OK just saw at the end where he used the word "tiny."

Based on your numbers, it's interesting how the numbers were dramatically higher 8 to 9 years ago and seem to be trending lower.

Which ones were on network TV vs ESPN?

I bet more than a few casual sports fans didn't even realize the game was on Monday night.

Two of the most popular teams, also two of the most hated, should make for huge ratings.

Maybe the playoff is just not what they had hoped, and people just miss watching really interesting matchups spread over the holiday season.

No. He called it a "truly awful" and "tiny" number, which is absurd. The guy's a clown.

All sports viewership has been down since COVID. People realized they don't actually need to watch sports.

I wish I had realized that with the Cowboys after Covid

Yeah true, but really it's just what they do. He's a typical twitard "influencer" click-bait artist.

Why do facts and data trigger you?

After the massive build up for the first CFP playoff, no one would be happy with such bad numbers.

It is a tiny number in the context of the additional hype and money poured into the CFP.

This is not difficult.

22 million viewers isn't a tiny or bad number by any standard in 2025.

It was the third-highest viewed championship since COVID and, for the second time, the highest-viewed non-NFL sporting event in the past year.

There's not a network or advertiser that would be disappointed with that number. Clay Travis is just a yuck-monkey and a dumbass. You'd be wise to stop holding that grifter's ****ty opinions in any sort of regard.

I'm not saying 22.1 million is an awful number, but it had to be disappointing in the first year of the new playoff era. It would appear that 2023 was back to pre-Covid numbers, and then this year regresses.
