A billionaire is paying people millions to play for Tech. This isn't 2012, 1994 or some other random year of the past the coach did have to sell his program.
The good news is there is regulation of all of this legal slush fund from donors stuff starting next year supposedly.
The regulation will never hold up in the Supreme Court. Good luck putting together a law that limits how much the free market is willing to pay an individual for their services.

This. The notion that "any program can do it if they try and have the right coach" is nonsensical.

Straw man. You can't just throw quotes around something and act like somebody said that

I don't even understand what point he's trying to make.
Money is egalitarian. At some point, if the current environment held, entirely possible Tech could buy itself a national championship.
That's why the SEC and B10 want to get the new system in place as quickly as possible. They don't want Tech to be able to easily outspend them. It levels the playing field.

I don't know why my response disappeared...
They'll need to move towards a collective bargaining agreement like the NFL and the NBA if they want a shot at enforceable salary caps.

Jimmy Rogers. Probably not a name that people talk about, but I think he's a very good coach. Former FCS guy. Washington state is a really really tough gig, and I think he would come to a place where he has better resources

I would take Briles over Aranda even if he were 93, in a wheelchair and mumbling to himself.

I'd imagine McGuire was able to sell the program to the boosters, something Aranda hasn't done.
Comparing Baylor's boosters to Texas Tech boosters isn't exactly a 1:1 comparison. Does Baylor have any (multi billion) billionaires sitting around that played football for Baylor?
I have no idea. But I don't see that as an excuse. You can either sell or you can't.
Tell that to Oregon, Ohio State, etc. and the opponents that they regularly trounce.
No idea what you're talking about. If you believe Aranda is a good salesman, then that's fine. I just don't agree.
Joey Mcguire was able to get the big guns to come to Lubbock of all places. Mcguire was able to do it. Aranda was not. And that's why our defense is at the bottom of the Big 12.
