I mean….there is a difference between losing by 4 to an unranked team vs losing by 10 to the #2 team in the nation.

Bashing? No. Realizing what it all cost the victims and the schools reputation by being one of the stories on the national news every night? Yes..

Texas, oil and football: How Texas Tech has raised a football monster in no time at all

"Eight months after the unveiling of that new facility, in the wake of arguably the most lucrative and aggressive recruiting effort from any program in the country, the Texas Tech football team is 8-1, ranked as the eighth-best team in the land and poised for its most momentous game in nearly two decades this Saturday when No. 7 BYU (8-0) visits in a Big 12 showdown in West Texas.

The Red Raiders are scoring in bunches and stuffing opponents. After all, they are one of only three teams that rank inside the top 10 in both total offense and total defense (the others: Indiana and Oregon). Issues that have plagued this program for years defensive lapses and physicality up front are no longer problems.
They are led by a genuinely gregarious Texan as coach, Joey McGuire, who fits here like a wide-brimmed hat atop the head of a cowboy. And they are funded by some of the richest oil barons in the world, a group that pooled their resources this spring in an effort to elevate this place into a different stratosphere."

I guess that was primary among the concerns when members of our own board of regents decided to make things look as bad as they possibly could in the Wall Street Journal.

Tech has bought their way into future expansion while we embarrass ourselves with our AD and coaching.

Big boys did this under the table. Now that it is out in the open you see how the game is no longer a kids game.
Thank you Miami Hurricanes. 10-3. :)

There is no future expansion involving XII teams or ACC teams except maybe 2 ACC teams. With the play off expanding, the landscape is pretty settled right now. Having a 9 or more win season was also not the ticket to the B2 anyway when the expansion era was occurring.

That's 2020 thinking, Expansion is coming and realignment into regional powers.

Teams like Tech and ISU with large fanbases will be invited. The only thing that matters will be the size of fanbase for advertisers.
Thank you Miami Hurricanes. 10-3. :)
IowaBear

ISU isn't getting in if there's further expansion. Tech and BYUs pockets are deep enough that they maybe get invited. But don't think the P2 see any value in any of the B12 and that includes Tech
Aliceinbubbleland
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If your stadium holds 60k and you regularly fill it you will be invited into expansion.
Thank you Miami Hurricanes. 10-3. :)
IowaBear

Not necessarily. Expansion would have to benefit the B10 or SEC financially. None of the B12 teams do that.
Aliceinbubbleland
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I envision expansion to about 30 or 40 teams back to regional basis. The SEC has already expanded geographically.

The B1G will come to realize travel costs of coast to coast conferences are not sustainable.
Thank you Miami Hurricanes. 10-3. :)

Ask OSU about this. They won 9 or more games almost every season from 2006 until a couple of years ago, have 2-3 XII titles and played for more and filled it up every Saturday as well. That never made them a candidate during the most tumultuous of periods of expansion. It really has nothing to do with how many come out to your stadium or the number of wins you achieve in a given season.

And we would probably have to spend the $10 million on getting rid of that coach and not on bringing in players

Tech is showing that the staff is not that critical if you can spend twice as much as everyone else in the conference. If this team was bought for UH, WVU, TCU, Baylor the results would be substantially similar.

I think the lesson is focus the money on players not the staff as much as in the past pre pay for play.

If you gave our staff Tech's roster they would not be 8-1. More like 6-3 with luck.

If you think Tech's staff is subpar it is because you are completely biased.

I'm saying I don't think this is legendary coaching like some of you do. I didnt say their staff is sub par. On the contrary I'm saying they are about par in the XII. However Tech spends 2x what the rest of the XII does for players. That is why they are having the season they are having. Sorry to have upset some of you with this.. I forget this is sort of a Tech board using green and gold colors.

I wouldn't say they are legendary, but I would take them over Baylor's staff, even without the NIL money.

Which is odd to say actually because all things being equal our staff with our team has beat their staff with their teams on par with ours 2 out of 3 times.

We probably came close to having almost that exact same thing, but Baylor passed.

They have Joey, JKB and endless buckets of $$. I just want to see them face the ags and beat their ass. I miss the ol raider ag battles like the one in the early 2000s when there were fights in the stands of the Jones among the aggys.
