Thought we wouldn't penalize teams for losing the conference championship game. Otherwise there's no reason to participate

BYU should be in regardless

Hell, I think BYU, Utah, and Tech would all do well in there

I guess the committee got this right since Auburn beat us head to head...

Notre Dame deserves to be in over BYU at the moment.

Notre Dame's only losses were to 11-1 Texas A&M and 10-2 Miami to start the year - Both close games that came down to the wire.

Since that 0-2 start, they have pretty much handled everyone else on their schedule with ease - which includes wins over Boise State, USC, Navy, and Pitt.

That's 10 games in a row. All won by double digits.

You could actually make a case for the Irish being the hottest team in the country right now (Only OSU has been as dominant over these last 2 months).

BYU, on the other hand, was crushed 29-7 in their loss (to 11-1 Tech), barely scraped by Colorado and Arizona (each 3-point wins), eased by Utah (another 3-point win), and struggled for nearly 3 quarters against lowly UCF.

So if the Cougars lose again to Tech, they will probably be left out, and rightfully so.

Having said that, they can make it all a moot point if they win on Saturday.

But based on how both teams have looked in recent months, Notre Dame easily has the edge.

How many players from Miami, Notre Dame, Texas, etc will opt of a bowl if they don't make CFP?

Thank you Miami Hurricanes. 10-3. :)

And now we have gone off the stupid cliff...

If Troy beats James Madison and Duke beats Virginia, then we have CFP Armageddon.

Depends on what happens in the MWC.

If Troy AND Duke win, then UNLV would probably get in with a win.

If UNLV were to lose as well, then the 5th spot would come down to 8-5 Duke and 9-4 Boise State.

In fact, if UNLV goes up to Boise and wins (and finishes as 11-2 MWC Champs), you could make a strong case for them to be ranked ahead of a 12-1 JMU squad that played a weak schedule. In fact, I would say UNLV would be more deserving.

As I mentioned in another thread, the committee needs Virginia, Georgia, and Texas Tech to handle business on Saturday.

If those 3 favorites win, then Miami replaces Bama in the field, and everyone walks away satisfied.

A real CCG pits two conference division leaders against each other for the championship and a playoff invite. It doesn't take two teams that have already settled the issue on the field and give the title to the second team to win in a series that is tied 1-1 for the season.

We made this whole thing way too complicated

I've always wanted the 8 team playoff. 5 P5 champions, 1 G5 team, and 2 at-large

Obviously the realignment has ruined those hopes. Wouldn't be surprised if we go to 16 teams soon

I would even get rid of the at large. Want to get to the playoffs? Win your conference.

I wanted 8 teams at one point as well, but I've warmed to the 12-team playoff.

A good majority of teams still have hope going into the final 2 weeks of the season nowadays, versus when only 4-5 teams had a legitimate shot at possibly making the postseason under the old system.

I like going to 14 teams if they increase the field, and stopping there.

You would give the top 2 teams a bye, which still makes a game like OSU/Indiana matter.

Plus, 14 teams would give you 6 playoff games on the first weekend (1 Thursday, 2 Friday, 3 Saturday).

Who wouldn't love to watch more playoff football?

Yep - they threw the ACC a bone with Miami in there - didn't even make the conference championship game plus bad losses- just a joke and then a 3 loss Alabama - no way- no BYU? BYU only losses were both to the #4 ranked team? - BYU had the best claim for the 10th spot - and this JMU in there - I know required by the rules - but still ridiculous

I agree with Shehan and Robert. Alabama should be out. They have the worst loss of all of these teams to Florida State. I would argue that Texas should be ahead of Alabama as Florida beat Florida State. And I don't like Texas. Sure Alabama beat Georgia, but then got their asses kicked in the rematch. Both Miami and Notre Dame should be in and Alabama out.

They should just make it a 16 team playoff. Why should teams get byes? If a team can't make it to the top 16, they shouldn't have any argument.

Miami can thank Duke. I dont think they get in without it .

ACC was not gonna get left out

100%.

The problem is the committee is just inconsistent. It starts with the answer then asks the questions. Some with Herbstreit. He in the same sentence stated that BYU's loss disqualifies it but Alabama should not be punished for making the conference championship game.

The talking heads and committee is masturbating to Alabama's win at Georgia in September but ignoring Texas win over aggy in November. How does a 9-3 Alabama make it over Texas or BYU, which really had just one loss: twice to the same team. How does Miami jump Notre Dame when both were idle? This actually is worse than the BCS.

I think if BYU had kept it closer yesterday they would have a more compelling argument

Doesn't BYU have a bigger fanbase than Miami? Maybe Miami has better TV ratings? Was this purely for TV reasons or do they just hate the Big 12 and/or BYU that much?

I've wanted a 16 team playoff since forever just to reduce this kind of situation, but 16 teams may just mean 4 more SEC/B1G teams each year so whatever.

The more they "fix" it, the more they break it.

That was always the purpose. Don't doubt that. Just like politics.

All they give a rats ass about is having more premium events to sell out to suckers with money.

It never should have gone past 8 teams. More like never past 4 teams, but counting conference championships as play-ins.
