That scenario might make the generic Baylor alum happy… but that is not going to satisfy anyone on here.

I just feel football depressed. I somehow feel worse about our football team than I was in that Canes drive thru when I heard we fired coach Briles. Just im tired of being kicked by the administration and just general attitude to football. I'm tired of everyone being ok with sub par football. I just don't know man

Same... it's not fun anymore. I will watch the last two games just because I have been watching Baylor games since the 80s… but I have zero excitement about it.

Here is the difference between hiring a professional that expects to win and knows what it look like and a Coordinator. This is James Franklin at Virgina Tech:

"Does it look, feel, smell and operate like a big-time program?" Franklin said, per ESPN's David Hale. "All those things need to be in place. ... I think the previous coaches here were in some challenging situations. That's the truth of it.
"There's some things that we're going to have to look at, and it's not just James Franklin. It's the marketing office, the ticketing office. Everybody's got to take some time and look in the mirror and say, 'Are we operating like a big-time program?'"

Baylor, even under Briles, NEVER met this standard. Some pieces were in place, but overall it ALWAYS feels, and felt under Briles, like we were piecing it together with duct tape. We were taking other programs cast offs, we were not able to recruit both sides of the ball, and even once we got top notch facilities that games STILL felt amateurish compared to B10 and Bluebloods.

Next AD HAS to fix this or it doesn't matter who they hire.

Briles wasn't out there scooping up trash players. He found kids who fit his system. Most were 2 to 3 star guys, then he'd mix in a couple high 3 stars and a few 4 stars and make it all work.

Yeah, he took chances on some kids with off the field issues. A lot of these guys aren't coming from River Oaks, Highland Park, or any of those places. Some of the best players in the country grow up in tough situations, broken families, whatever, and football is their way out. They needed structure, a father figure, and Briles was that for them. He turned a ton of those kids around and set them on the right path.

The big programs wanted those same players too, but they'd use them up and spit them out. Briles actually invested in them. That's why his players loved him then and still do now. Some of the classiest guys to ever wear the green and gold swear by him because he changed their lives.

But now our BOR has essentially created a checklist that every recruit has to fit before we can even make an offer. Somebody stole a sandwich once? Nope, off the board. Meanwhile, those same kids can head to A&M, UT, LSU, Tech, wherever, and those schools won't think twice.

Just another hurdle the next AD and coach are going to have to deal with.

I get it. Yeah, some are classy, good guys. Others are still serving time and almost got BU the death penalty. You can't seperate one from the other.

The purpose of the post was not to get into Briles, he was brough in to show that EVEN the almighty Briles suffered from the Administration NOT being where it needs to be. AND top coaches, like Franklin, are calling them on it. Briles would have BEEN MORE successful with the organization Franklin is talking about and wouldn't HAVE TO TAKE RISKS on players he did to win.

But, naturally the Briles Mafia has to go ballistic on any conversation he was involved in. Hell, according to Iowa because he beat OSU once with a 3rd string QB we were Ohio State...

Others? Who are all these guys serving time?

None, there are none. Never was. Sorry mistook the Christian mission they were doing to help the poor. My bad. It was truly a golden era...

Yeah. In the off season they'll be fan check outs.
With respect to the BMDs apparently we've got sit outs.
In season, as you say, stay outs.

Most of us die hards will still be here next year to watch the trainwreck.

For sure, for sure. Waco is known for it's train wrecks, literally and figuratively.

Time to start "Fire Linda" chants at games? I know it helped play a part in the Mavs organization finally stepping away from dumbass Nico.

Although… I guess it's hard to get much momentum with a chant with no fans in the stands.

I'll start...I remember how frustrating it was to go to the refrigerator when Baylor had the ball. That Tempo offense would invariably cause me to miss a touchdown if I took my eyes off the screen.

then what? If you are going to make such a statement, it needs to be backed up. And also remember that the job of an AD involves more than a good football season.

Trying to figure out the purpose and timing of the announcement.

To stamp out speculation of a new head coach, and the conclusion by everyone else that firing of DA was inevitable. And then pray that Baylor wins its last two games, gets a bowl and wins it, and everyone is happy again, basically pretend the last couple of weeks never happened.

Best I can come up with. But it's a pretty big risk. Not the best possible look. But I don't know if there is a way for it to not be awkward under the circumstances.

Yeah, I can't understand why this was even put out. Why show your cards..

If we don't have the money then I get it. But now everyone including players know we don't have money to spend.

The uncertainty could hurt recruiting. If he is getting more time, it did need to be announced officially.

Why would they put it out?

1. Notification to donors.
2. Clarity for 2026 recruits.
3. Clarity for existing players.
4. Confirmation for the staff.
5. Notification to alumni (that are otherwise not donors).
6. Notification to potential HC replacements.
etc.

Uncertainty in regard to this topic could potentially be as devastating as anything else that could happen short of another scandal, as, for example, higher profile 2026 recruits could bail and existing players that contribute could largely all bail.

I think early on Baylor was considered a teachers school. Maybe Linda's objective is to return the university to that… destroy any interest, passion, investment in "athletics" and increase female enrollment.

He looked pretty serious for a good while when talking to the opposing coach, and their discussion was quite lengthy compared to most coach meetings after the game. Only at the end did they both smile. You have plenty you can carp on DA about, but this is taking things way out of context to pile on.

You're free to read it your way, but the point stands. The optics were bad, and they fit a broader pattern that's hard to ignore. Noting that isn't "out of context" it's acknowledging the results. If you see it differently, that's fine, but it doesn't change the substance.

What was the substance? What was said that created the smiles? Yeah, none of us know. I often get mad, but that doesn't mean something isn't said in the conversation that can bring a smile. I suspect if honest, this happens to you as well.
