Just an observation:

The ENMU Greyhounds play their home games 100 miles from where the Texas Tech plays its home games.

Something that opens an obvious farm system for the Red Raiders.

Combined with their newfound NIL wealth, they really are set up to dominate the conference going forward.

Interesting theory, and I admire it on that level. But I'm not sure it checks out in reality, regardless of user name.

Seems to me everyone knows after 1 or 2 good seasons, he's gone. The low base salary and large buyout suggests so.

It was surgical and not a damn thing OU could do to stop it

That's a contract for a guy who's just glad he gets to coach again.

Excited for our old coach. I hope he makes them a winner and make his way back to D1.

My friend's son just signed with Eastern New Mexico on Friday. It was fun to hear the details about the recruiting that Pat Colbert and Art did to lock him in. Art made a phone call and took them to dinner Thursday night. I told my friend to use a quote from Art (Put it on paper) once they made the decision to sign with him. He told him that and said Art got a kick out of it.

New ENMU Coach Talks Recruiting

Interview with CAB about the state of recruiting over there and some other tidbits.

Briles: Well, I know Joey McGuire extremely well at Texas Tech. He came up the way I did, through the high school ranks.
Should be the head coach at Baylor except for someone last name of Rhoades.

CAB: "We're in a phase of trying to put a roster together instead of trying to hang on to one."

Just an insanely funny statement. Rare greatness. Will be a while before I quit bursting out laughing when I read it.

FYI, I sent Coach Briles a short letter congratulating him on his new job and I received the nicest hand written thank you note in return. He seems really happy to be coaching again.

Their first game is August 27, against New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM and my wife and I will definitely be in the crowd cheering for ENMU. It's only an hour's drive from Santa Fe. Highlands has a pretty little campus with a neat old stadium and Las Vegas is a fun town with a historic downtown. It would be cool if quite a few Baylor fans who support Coach Briles made the game.

Their second game is a home game against Colorado Mesa. I hope some of the West Texas Baylor fans who support Coach Briles can make that one.

Very cool.

They also have games in Kingsville and San Angelo, which might be easier for Texans to make. (Also a game in Alpine, but that's not particularly close to many folks...)

Man that was great to watch...just moving the ball at will and there wasn't a damn thing defenses could do about it. Favorite part was OU coaches losing their **** at the 2:30 mark.

One of the greatest things about CAB's return to college coaching is that now we're going to see the silliness of claims that had he remained at BU his offense would have been defeated because defensive minds would figure it out once and for all.

It's so fun to watch the frustration in the body language of the OU players and the sideline anger of the OU coaches. They knew that they were toast.

And yes, the championships won by the Bears during Briles' tenure included having UT and OU as competitors.

Try as they can, the Briles detractors cannot take away his joy at coaching again. For him, I believe it feels a bit like coaching back in high school. None of his opposition has any money...ENMU sure doesn't. It's who can find the diamonds in the rough, coach them and give them a system.

It might not happen this year (but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Greyhounds be successful really quick), but by next year none of his opponents will look forward to playing them.

CAB got Mack Brown, Charlie Strong and Bob Stoops on the hot seat or fired in my opinion for whooping their arse consistently. Maybe when this current regime gets tossed out the school will make amends and build that man a statue next to RG3.

There is a larger context in which Art got canned, largely conveniently ignored. The overall responsibility in BU's sexual assault/rape dishonesty and lying fall on the institution itself. I'm not arguing that Art shouldn't have been fired...that can and has been explained. What Baylor and its apologists are burying is that multiple employees should have been fired prior to Art's being dismissed. BU could have found a way to redeem this mess but the admission of guilt and failed responsibility was too high a price to pay by BOR, admin and other principal staff and "influencer-supporters".

Yeah, lots of folks' attitudes changed a lot after that, and probably won't ever change back because it will forever remain un-addressed.

Who owns private property right by the stadium? They could easily raise the money to put up a CAB statue. It would become a Mecca for fans attending games.

Art still pisses me off the way he treated Baylor. He tarred and feathered us before he was stopped from literally driving a stake in our heart. It did not have to go down that way. He feathered his nest and then pooped in it. The AD & Prez let him do it. They are the primary enablers to blame. They were afraid of exhibiting some much needed tough love. Perhaps they got high on their own supply?

Angelo State's the closest game to me. 3 hr 42 min to the stadium. In Texas, that's a hop, skip and jump.

The "Prez" refused to establish a Title IX office because he was politically opposed to the concept. He allowed his personal beliefs to control his actions as president. He had a duty to Baylor to comply with the law, even if he opposed it. He could have (1) complied and then (2) convinced the board/regents to file suit and use whatever political stroke they had, to get the law changed. Instead, he just ignored the law. Had Baylor had a fully functioning Title IX office AND proper training for all department heads, professors, coaches, administrators, etc. Baylor would not have become the poster child for stupidity. Remember, that the problem was UNIVERSITY WIDE. Art Briles was/is smart enough to do what he's told and he would have followed the rules. The AD was a wimp, and he also would have followed the rules. The problem was.....there WERE NO RULES! The blame falls 100% on the "Prez" and the folks in control....who also didn't like the concept of Title IX, and let their political leanings interfere with their fiduciary duty to Baylor. If Baylor had laid down "the law" as they should have, the university wide problem would never have existed in the first place. Failure of leadership in the highest degree.
