Yep...he was threading the needle like a good politician. At this point he inherited Dave for at least one more year so I certainly wouldn't expect him to be publicly sharing any doubts about CDA he may have this early on.

That was a nice way of saying there are two likely paths:

(1) Baylor starts off strong and Dave stays through the end of the year
(2) Baylor starts slow and Dave is fired.

In either case there is hope at the end. That's how I hear that.

Doug will 100% fire Dave if Baylor isn't greatly improved and showing a trajectory for sustained success. He has said nothing to the contrary and consistently signaled this is the case. Of course he is going to be optimistic and hopeful because he wants Baylor to succeed-he doesn't give a crap about being right about Dave. Like all of us, I'm sure Doug would have fired Dave last year if he was already Ad. Mack would almost certainly have as well. But it does no one any good, nor is it interesting, to keep repeating the mantra Dave sucks. Everyone knows the facts including Dave.

It is actually a public good to remind the powers-that-be that their actions were unacceptable to the fans and that if they want to continue to conciliate the good will of the fans and grow the fan base, then they need to make better decisions. An abject, silent apathy in this situation would be a mistake. I'm sorry if you don't want to hear it, but there it is.
