Bull***** The quick, rushed action was to hire a sitting AD who could bring a football coach with him/her, and there were no shortage of options infinitely better and more qualified than the president of Field and ****ing Stream.

Magnolia has become known for their cupcakes. Now Baylor has become one.

I heard a story from a Texas Tech insider. The BOD discussed raising money for academics. The BOD chairman, Cody Campbell, said, "Give me that money for football and you will have more money than you can spend for academics." That's what a commitment to football looks like and how it impacts a university. Pretty sure the Baylor BOD sees it differently.

Based on this selection, lack of $$funds in a major sense, loss of revenue going forward, is it considered "negatively emotional" to suggest leaving a P4 conference?

can you, or someone else, logically explain why this was a bad move? leaving the emotion & disappointment out as best you can. my knowledge is limited, so I just want to understand! what I see is that a pretty much solely NIL-produced team just shot out BYU for their first ever big12 championship. and this guy rumored to be the AD has been in a money-producing role in & out of Baylor. so, broke or not, why would we not want an AD who can rake in $$? **pls don't come for me I am, again, just seeking understanding

Because this man is no way, shape or form qualified for the job he was hired to fill.

As best I can tell the only reason he would even be considered is because he's a "Baylor guy." Those credentials with a degree from any other university wouldn't even be entertained for our AD position.

.@Baylor has not confirmed yet, but it certainly looks like former BU senior associate AD for external relations Doug McNamee will replace Mack Rhoades as dir of athletics at BU. @SicEm365 was first to say it was headed this way. I've known Doug for years, so much more to come.

I usually love hires like this in other businesses.. with one massive caveat. The ones trying to pull of hires like these need to be visionary types with impeccable eye for talent. Bu obviously has nothing close to that.

If you don't have it, go with track record guys that have some room to grow.

If not, those types of deals can crash and burn. The hit rate isn't great. When they hit, can be great but it's rare.

Again, I'm not convinced that the university has demonstrated a commitment level to football (and all athletics) that a high quality sitting AD would find acceptable. I suspect he turned it down, if he was offered at all.

If this does get the donors excited I guess that is one upside...but being an "inside the family" hire I'm not sure this is leading to moving on from Aranda.

I believe @BaylorAthletics will have a new AD early this week. President Livingstone needs to knock this out of the park. There will be a lot of work ahead to energize a fanbase and donor group highly frustrated with all aspects of the football program.

in those other positions, he had a marketable product.

He was in the AD office through the (most recent) best years of Baylor football, and according to Matt Mosley was on the committee that hired Rhule. And was at IMG before that. Seems like the diversion was going from sports to Magnolia, not the other way around?

The Magnolia job was an upgrade, and it could have also been a way to get away from Mack.

It didn't work out long term with Magnolia as their growth slowed and they needed someone with different skills for that environment.

This has Tom Stanton vibes.

If he can bring the BMD's back, he'll be a good hire. After that everything else could fall into place.

This will be a disaster

I imagine that had a lot to do with the pandemic! But he was at the helm during their big expansion, as well as the creation of their own network. I know everyone was hoping for Jeremiah Dickey or someone currently acting as an AD with a successful program, that certainly would feel more exciting/bring more optimism. But I'm hoping this will be a better decision than we think.
