Honestly McNamee could be a good hire. The hiring of the head football coach is much more important than the hiring of the AD, IMO. Mac Rhoades had a lot of prior AD experience and how did that work out for us? If McNamee is a normal guy with good administrative skills and good instincts he'll probably do a good job. The head football coach is the hire we have to get right and I think that McNamee might well get it right. I hope he is his own man and doesn't weigh the University President's input too heavily when choosing the coach. Assuming that there will be a head football coach search within the next calendar year of course.
Good, reasonable level headed post. I can understand a few of the chicken littles on here because it might feel a little like the hiring of the Sheet Music Salesman, but - Not so fast! This guy has experience in the Athletic department in a few important capacities and running some private companies - hopefully he was successful in those business endeavors - I would think so - I am hoping he is more like a Yormark type and not a Sheet Music salesman type.
Livingstone's letter (November 21, basically two weeks ago), one would have to think all parties, Pres, BOR, McNamee and Yoda, were all on board at THAT time and McNamee had understood the immediate twelve months or so and what was expected of him... so much probably for autonomy. Vetting time, an "internal" hire, blessed by powers of university makes one think that Yoda is completely safe for '26 season. It just leaves an uneasy, no confidence feeling. Wondering if there is any money for a GM consideration. If so, and he appointed a good one, could bolster some confidence. Just so afraid the next twelve months will drag along the way with no confidence/assurance and still in October '26 we're wondering what do we have and what will happen.
