How would his style of offense translate to the Big 12. Yes I realize he would change it to adapt to the Big 12. He might do well. Don't know him.

It would be interesting. People would have trouble scheming up for you. And your recruiting would be contraflow.

They run that offense because they are Navy and can't get 4 star studs and lack size and athleticism on the offensive line.

You can't be 350 pounds as a member of the naval academy. Their line averages 6'3" 285 pounds.

Yeah, it also changes the way you recruit OL. You need smaller guys that can run.

Part of my point about your recruiting being contraflow. There would be some advantages to that.

Your defensive coordinator would love it.

There's probably a ceiling on that type of offense in today's game. It'll get you to bowl games, but probably not many conference championships.

Rice decided it's not worth trying to win like the big guys, so just bring in a difference offense and hope to make bowl games each year. They are happy with 6-8 wins.

So that sounds perfect for this group of Baylor leaders.

I like him and would be fine with him, but if I was in that interview room, I would have some serious questions about what offense he is going to run, how he is going to recruit at this level, and how he is going to have success having to replace darn near his entire team year over year. Service academies' success generally comes from having a bunch of returning players from one year to the next. Players that have bought in to the culture, understand the system, extreme assignment football type stuff. That's just not all that conducive to the modern p4 game. this offseason, we're gonna end up replacing like 16 starters or guys that would be starters if they had stayed, just as for instance. Sure, a lot of those guys might not be good enough to hack it in our current system, but a coach like Newberry would need guys to stay instead of hitting the portal. We've already experienced a couple years with Aranda with the whole person over player, "we won't pay you but we're about culture and family " mindset, and we did do a good job of retaining players, but it did not lead to wins on the fuel.

I think you'd also really struggle to recruit receivers since Navy doesn't pass more than about 15 attempts per game or thereabouts.

yes but they went 12-1 and beat Army at West Point the first game of the season. This is the first year they actually competed in Division I.

As opposed to the "belly rub" brand of football we have under coach Dr Seuss.

Some coaches today would rather coach a Navy or Army, have disciplined kids who chose the school for a selfless future, and not deal with NIL and the other burdens of semi-professional college ball. I wouldn't blame the man if he would not want to come to his Alma Mater now, despite the likely bump in pay he would receive.

I doubt if we were to hire Newberry he'd run the triple option. Coach Ken went to San Jose State and ditched the option for a spread passing attack.

The questions with Newberry would be how he handles NIL, what staff he could assemble, and how he'd recruit and use the portal. Obviously service academies can't use the portal and have to recruit a certain type of person
