The lesson learned here seems to be that 28 million dollars might buy you a Big 12 Conference championship, but that's about all.
Was this a wise investment by Texas Tech?

This, and the 1# rated QB in the portal is visiting Tech 1st.boognish_bear said:
Watching the game… it looks like they are halfway there.
That defense of Tech was no joke. They stood strong against one of the nations elite offenses. That was a championship defense.
With is a better QB they would've stood a much better chance yesterday.
Conference champions (all conferences) are 0-8 in the 12 team playoff era with an average margin of defeat of ~17.8 points.

Remove the “non-P4” and it is 0-5 (Clemson, ASU, Georgia, Oregon, Tech) at 15.6.
But yea, Tech is the problem.
Joey McGuire’s personal loyalty to Morton is commendable, but he allowed it to overshadow his loyalty to the whole team. Gotta have enough ice in your veins to bench Jalen Hurts and let Tua win the game for you. Sentimentality wins friends, but does it win championships at this… https://t.co/V3A0HXfMpx

truth. he was missing routine checkdowns. There was some discussion while the game was going on that QB2 was hurt, but, even so maybe you give QB3 a chance.

Texas Tech is actively searching for a P4 opponent next season! Who should the Red Raiders play? I’d love to see LSU https://t.co/yOH00g3nQp

Problem is, you have to keep pouring the money in year after year. It is not a case of compound dividends...you have to feed new mouths.

Hmmm it's as though maybe we should just take the 12 best teams. Period. Lol
Let’s goooo! Texas Tech got a taste this year, want more, and are building a dynasty. We are hungrier and more committed than ever before!

Yes
And they will do it again next year. And spend even more and might even make the national title game. And the year after that they might win it all.
They are committed

Two things I'd wonder: 1) how much did TTech bring in financially because of the improvement in the team (better ticket sales, money from the CFP, gifts from donors, etc.)? 2) How much more was the $28M than what Baylor paid for a crappy season that led to tiny crowds by mid-season.
Everyone is having to pay. The question is the value of the marginal difference.
