Nah. They wanted "big time" success, not the current mess. And it was hardly "deacons" who pulled the pin on that grenade. The core problems were poor leadership with outside-the-board influences coupled with a lack of courage to rectify prior failed leadership. Lots of natural human decisions rooted in personal embarrassment.
