Mostly when we had "bad dudes". That's not allowed anymore. Frankly I'm surprised we have any black players. This program is straining to be on par with Abilene Christian, McMurry, Howard Payne, Incarnate Word etc.

Everything post NIL in my book gets an Asterix. Congrats, you beat up a bunch of financial midgets on your way to a championship game.

It will be two after next season. We either play victim or do something about it or just fold programs

So what would people have associated BU football with after the encounter with Tech we so mercifully didn't have to experience this past season?

Art called them "bad dudes". Nobody else did. Is Art then racist by calling them "bad dudes". Were you sure all of the "bad dudes" were black?

Any black players??????

Go look at our current commits. I'm still thinking maybe 2 kids are white bread.

It's quite funny though that we've have been pretty down for the past four seasons and yet we are tied for first on this list.

I get what you're saying, but...Shawn Oakman, Ahmad Dixon, Andrew Billings, etc. were probably all considered "bad dudes" by some of the limp-wristed administrators at the time. And they all happened to by black.

I don't know if they were "bad dudes" off the field or not. But they lacked discipline on the field. Too often an absolutely outstanding defensive play of a sack or hefty loss was negated by an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty keeping the opponent's drive going. I primarily remember Oakman and Dixon doing this. Billings might have been OK, I don't remember.

I still remember the OU blackout game when we were trying to pull off a goal line stand and Dixon was facing the crowd trying to stir them on when the ball was snapped. Loved Bennett's expression as Dixon came off.

Yep - me too. And we still stopped the "Belldozer" (whose specialty was plowing into the end zone whenever OU was inside the five) to complete that impressive goal line stand, despite Dixon leading cheers with his back turned when the ball was snapped.

Also, who won that game?

Since the "McPlay" in the '21 B12 Championship over 4 years ago there have been at most precious few notable big stops by the D when a stop was needed. And yet there are those that still complain about how bad Bennett's defenses were back when we were regularly beating the UTs and the OUs and winning conference championships with a Heisman to boot.

Put an asterisk by TCU's Championship.

In 2014, the Big 12 Conference faced immense scrutiny over its "One True Champion" slogan when Baylor and TCU finished as 11-1 co-champions, despite Baylor defeating TCU 61-58 head-to-head. Both teams were left out of the four-team College Football Playoff, prompting the league to adopt a direct head-to-head tiebreaker for the 2015 season.

  • The Controversy: The Big 12 did not have a championship game in 2014, leading to co-champions when both finished 8-1 in conference play.
  • Head-to-Head: Baylor Bears defeated TCU Horned Frogs 61-58 on Oct. 11, 2014, yet both were branded champions.
  • CFP Impact: The confusion and lack of a single champion contributed to both teams being left out of the inaugural College Football Playoff, with the committee favoring teams that played 13 games.
  • Reaction: Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby initially argued "One True Champion" referred to the full round-robin schedule, but the situation forced a rule change.
  • Resolution: Starting in 2015, the Big 12 instituted strict tiebreaker rules, starting with head-to-head, to ensure a singular champion.

Both finished 11-1

Both lost a conference game. #4 Baylor lost 27-41 to an unranked West Virginia. TCU lost to #5 Bears 61-58.

Both went to a bowl game. #6 TCU blasted #9 Ole Miss 42-3. #5 Baylor collapsed to #8 Michigan State.

Final polls have TCU ranked #3. Baylor finished #7.

Both teams claim Big 12 Championships. Both have the same trophy.

All I am saying is that we both finished 11-1 and while we lost a lot of momentum, TCU rose up and finished strong. They impressed.

I wonder why the Bears were lackluster in the Cotton Bowl?

The vapors over the term "bad dudes" has always been hysterical. It's an old school term for any kind of tough guys, or just cool guys. Has absolutely nothing to do with race or criminal activity. But people gonna people.

I used to play an old martial arts tournment video game called Bad Dudes, like back in the 80s when they still had arcades and games at the movie theater.

Once again, my friend, that Cotton Bowl was an exciting and fun game to watch if you were not a Baylor fan. A handful of freakish things happened for us to lose. The Andrew Billings block in the back when our freshman LB ran an interception back for a touchdown. The facemask call on Cory Coleman after a long reception into Michigan State territory. Our kicker was obliterated on a field goal try early in the game. No call. (I consider most all kickers defenseless players). Michigan State was a very good team.

Was much more disappointed in our later BCS Bowl loss to UCF.

It was super exciting. However, I've never felt bad for a player like I did for Bryce Petty. When the camera focused in on him kneeling on the sidelines having to watch Michigan State march down the field multiple times pretty much unimpeded killed me. We could not stop them.

Freakish or stupid things did happen but we helped MSU come back and humiliate us. Yes. UCF was more embarrassing. I've been in some embarrassing loses myself while wearing the green & gold. IT happens!
