It looks like the Bears are going to finish with the #62 HS signing class and #48 transfer portal class, per On3.

With the losses from last year's roster (your best QB, RB, WR, TE, LB, DL, etc.), Baylor seemingly is in a much worse spot talentwise.

Aside from Lagway being Superman, what needs to come together for the Bears to reach bowl eligibility?

Defense is gonna have to actually stop somebody occasionally.

How does our OL project versus last year?

I think you will see a lot of what we have been seeing for Aranda. Really high for portions, and really low for others. No balance nor complementary football.

Bringing in players from Memphis, Texas, UAB, Incarnate Word, Toledo, South Alabama. Lose two starters to LSU and Kentucky. Last year was average, at best, so you need to hit on a lot of projects to improve at all.

So, basically, we are hoping that the 8 year-old horse who has not jumped over that fence in years is going to decide to jump over it tomorrow.

It appears that is the hope

I am hearing we have some very inclusive Sing talent this year. Heterosexuality is not discouraged this year.

Best hope for a better team is that the defense without Aranda's hands all over it, giving it up completely to Klanderman, with the guys he brought in on the staff and the players brough with him in a totally new scheme will be a marked improvement. The D could acually be pretty good.

Then you have Spav handling the offense his own way, continuing to be a good unit, perhaps with better health with the running backs, maybe not as explosive as last year, but still scoring points at a good level.

Then the only think left to worry about is Arandalytics.

Honestly, kicker could be a problem. We won two games on last play field goals last year. Without those, the season looks totally different.

Ask Texas A&M if that position can ruin your season.

I think Baylor's path to improvement/success is pretty simple -- not easy or likely, but simple.

We need the offense with Lagway and the new receiving corps to be similarly effective to what we've had the past two seasons and dramatic improvement from Klanderman's defense.

If we get those two things, it's possible in our conference to make the same type of jump that Houston or Arizona made last season. If we don't, we'll likely be fighting for bowl eligibility again in 2026 and will have a new coach in 2027.

I don't think we'll be terrible because I think our base talent level is high enough to avoid that outcome. But I still think somewhere between four and six wins is the most likely outcome, and none of those are good enough for Aranda to keep his job.

our ceiling may hinge on Wheeler's eligibility and Devin Turner's health. Their presence could be the difference between a middling turnaround that shows some promise but doesn't quite all the doubters (i.e. 8-5 w/a bowl loss) and something that truly gets fans reengaged (i.e. 10-3 w/ a bowl win)...but that's assuming all else goes well.

We're all just guessing until Auburn, but IMO the range of plausible outcomes for the season runs from:
  • Dave gets fired after TCU
  • [everything in between]
  • The Bears are in contention for the conference title going into the BYU game

There is so much movement these days in college football thanks to NIL and the transfer portal that it really is hard to judge what our opponents will be capable of. Iowa State, for example, will have 40 new players on their roster. Colorado has a large incoming transfer class as well. UCF has added some key weapons.

I agree with you, but do you find it a little bit funny to say our success hinges on dramatic improvement in half of our team (ie the defense) that was heretofore run by our head coach?

Our O-line is going to be little better than a group of truck drivers and club bouncers, isn't it?

I'll wait and see what the offensive staff can do with it. Our 2024 O-line group wasn't supposed to be very good and it ended up being a strength of that team.

Of course, the opposite was true last year, so you never know.
