Texas will build one bigger, then Ohio State, then Florida, then Texas A&M, then Michigan, then Notre Dame, then LSU....rinse and repeat.

Meanwhile also at U of Oregon...

Declining enrollment, higher costs, lost grants blamed for UO's $65M budget shortfall

Quote:

EUGENE, Ore. The $65 million budget shortfall at the University of Oregon was a major topic at Monday's Board of Trustees meeting.

The shortfall is being blamed on several factors including declining enrollment, increased costs, and a loss in grant funding.

The total estimated cost of attending the University of Oregon for an in-state student, including room and board, is $38,607 for the academic year. That puts the cost of a bachelor's degree from this state school for an in state student at $154,428.

College is no longer an automatic decision for a senior graduating from high school, particularly if you're male, white, asian, or middle class/upper middle class which will eliminate your access to much of the financial aid or discounted tuition available to others.

You really have to make a careful decision on what the ROI for a college degree is for your chosen career path. If you're not sure what you want to do, the workplace is a better place to figure it out than a four year party with a $154,428 cover charge.

Great blessings come in strange disguises.

if a 40-team league was to happen it would be ugly for most. using national titles, revenue, apr, and such as metrics - sporting news said this is how it would look. some weird schools.

i would say land grants like k-state and iowa state would have no shot. notice this metrics based list excludes wvu, inidana, nebraska, ucla, and others of that "class." they should be careful.

1 Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Michigan, Georgia, LSU, OU, Wisconsin, FSU, Florida
2 Notre Dame, Washington, Penn State, Auburn, Utah, Oregon, Texas, aTm, Ole Miss, Iowa
3 Boise State, USC, Missouri, Cincinnati, Air Force, Minnesota, Michigan State, South Carolina, Miami, UVA
4 Tennessee, Northwestern, Louisville, Mississippi State, TCU, Kentucky, Arkansas, North Carolina, UCF, Wake Forest

I posted here years ago………private school conference is the most logical course of action. Get organized and pull out of the NCAA.

The majority of these schools can't and won't keep throwing $$$ away. College, for the students, is getting more & more expensive and we are going to see fewer and fewer students enrolling in the big state schools. Paying for worthless degrees is now recognized for what it was…..robbery and a waste of $.

Build a 10 or 12 team conference out of these schools with higher admission standards, NIL $ (some, not millions) due only after they graduate and invested by the student/athlete or a chosen professional money manager over their 4 years on campus, NO transfers allowed, etc. I could go on with rules & regulations to even be eligible for "NIL".

Baylor
Boston College
Duke
Northwestern
Rice
SMU
Stanford
Syracuse
TCU
Tulsa
Tulane
Miami
Norte Dame
USC
Vanderbilt
Wake Forest

Yes, the "Big Privates" conference. USC and Miami will never agree to it.

Notre Dame, Stanford and (theoretically) USC have the resources and/or cache to stay with the big boys.

Northwestern and Vandy get a nice carry by being in their respective conferences. So will be hard to pry them away.

BYU (not on your list), Miami and (perhaps) Duke will refuse to accept relegation to a lower conference.

Even in a scenario where BYU, Miami and Duke pout their way into accepting a private school conference, the TV revenue for what remains sucks and it is not enough to run a full athletics department as they exist today. You're talking about much smaller athletic departments, over built facilities (how often could we sell out McLane without public schools?) dragging down departments on the cost side.

And even then, you are still nothing more than a minor, developmental league for the big boy leagues as both promising players and coaches decamp.

The real fix to preserve private schools and lesser public schools is a hard salary cap and revenue sharing model. It will need to be imposed by Congress.

A private school conference would never work. There would be no tv money there. No interest. Players would not want to play for those schools if it is some sort of second rate league/conference.

If the SEC and big 10 try to form a super division the private schools in them will go and would have no interest in joining what would be a third level conference. If there is a super division and then division one that is what a private league only conference would be.

And if it has no transfers allowed, no NIL, etc. players would not want to go to those schools when the state schools allow those.

Then there is the issue of how to get around those things to not allow them when courts have ruled the players have the rights to those.

So it may "sound" nice to those wanting to hang on to the nostalgia of college football of the 80s or 90s (or earlier) it would never work.

I think you missed my primary point. Baylor should not go after the so called blue chippers. Go after kids who were raised right and understand the challenges of life they are about to embark upon. I can much more readily identify with a kid who is loyal, wants to be at Baylor, understands the history of Baylor Football, understands the history of Baylor the University, stays out of the police blotter, doesn't expect to be coddled and favored only because of football talents. He or she wants a superior education.

Recruit and invite kids that are honestly aware that they are very likely not going to be making a living in the NFL for 15 years but instead are being trained to lead businesses, start new businesses and make the 99% of Baylor students who don't play sports proud. They love football but are well rounded and model citizens who expect to go to classes, don't need a handout and are proud to wear the green and gold. They want to tee up SMU, TCU, Rice, Tulane, Villanova, Boston College, Furman, Tulsa, etc.

I personally feel that the general public has tired of the coddled athletes and the jumping from school to school because they are not the star player or they just might not be as good as they and their parents think they are.

I have to admit, when I signed with Baylor and put on the green & gold I thought I was not only a better football player but also was a better person because I was being upheld to higher standards.

Lol. Of course you start with personal attacks because someone disagrees with you.

What you just described would never work. You are basically admitting to go after D3 level talent. No one would watch that.

It would be similar to when pro leagues fill rosters during a strike with replacement players. Bad ball.

Also, much of what you talk about is things that can't be predicted. You cannot truly predict if a kid will stay out of trouble with the police once they get to college. You cannot measure who "wants" to be at Baylor.

We would not even fill up Waco isd stadium with the type of football you are describing. We surely would not compete against other schools.

And I disagree that the public has tired of the current state of athletics with players being paid or jumping schools. They may not like it but attendance and viewership has not taken a major nose dive. Which means people are still paying attention.

You are trying to hold this generation to the ideals YOU felt because YOU think that is how everyone should feel. It wouldn't work.

Just look at the lack of support your idea has gotten on here. Look at the fact that no other private school seems to be talking about it. No one at Baylor seems to be talking about it. No one other than you is interested in it. Because it won't work.

Over 1/2 of the 1500+ USFL players (778) went on to play in the NFL. There is lots of talent out there.

Lots of things influence raw talent ~ great coaching and adherence to sound techniques, attitude, playing against superior high school talent, a great upbringing while under mama & daddy's wings, having a fighter attitude, etc.

I will argue that you can gauge kids that are susceptible to straying from the Baylor Baptist path fairly easily. There are good kids that also possess huge upsides given great training & coaching. Looking at NFL rosters during Baylor's Briles era not many Baylor kids lasted very long in the NFL. Baylor was beating teams with better talent.

Hide and watch. A private school conference will form soon. I'm merely suggesting Baylor take a leadership role in leading it. We've already missed the NIL boat. Who is coming to bail us out? Which Baylor billionaire is going to save the program.

We are an all time .509 program.

Most of our players are not Baptist. And that probably has been the case for a long long time.

It isn't a problem of talent being available. It is a problem of talent willing to play under your stupid and in violation of court order ideas like the no transfers and no or limited NIL.

A private school conference will not be coming any time soon or in the next 50 years. Most of the schools would rather go to a mid major conference with other state schools than a private school league with the rules you put forward.

It won't happen. Ever.

We are behind on NIL not off the boat. If you think we have missed it please provide facts and not your opinion that prove we have missed it. Facts only.

A private school conference will not happen.

Unless the ones in the big 2 are kicked out and ND is left out of a future elite level they would not drop down to a private school only conference.

The rest do not have the draw for tv as explained earlier.

Personal attack? That's not a personal attack. That's a badge of honor. Wear that BBubble badge proudly. Thin skin!

Again with personal attacks because someone disagrees with you. You are nothing more than an old keyboard warrior that wouldn't dare talk to people to their face like you do on here.

LMAO.

I'll talk to your face, your @$$, your dog, whoever & whatever. It's all delivered with good intentions and with an intent to entertain. You obviously take these bulletin boards or yourself too seriously. I'm here to primarily have fun and listen to delusional dribble.

Violation of court order "ideas"? Ideas?

Baylor has never to my knowledge backed off a recruit because he was not biscuit sopping Baptist. We had a devil worshipper in Brooks Hall back in the day. I was Church of Christ back in the late 70's and even though I thought all of the Baptists, Methodists, Whiskeypalions, Episcopalians, and others were bound for Hell, we all came together and broke bread and Big O's together often.

You must be what Trump calls a low IQ individual - talent is largely up to the coaches and the attitude of the players. What constitutes a major conference now? I'd argue the SEC is the only major conference. The Big 12 has those powerhouses like Cincinnati, UCF, Utah, Texas Tech, Kansas, OSU . Utah tops the conference with a .601 lifetime record.

I'm not qualified to put up any rules but I'd be willing to bet the Presidents at a surprising number of private schools want someone to start talking about forming an academically elite conference that recruits elite student/athletes who realize that less than 2% of them will ever play in the NFL. If some alumni want to put up some $$$, let it be untouchable until that kid spends 4 years on Campus, stays out of trouble and participates in some non-profit or a program that truly helps kids.

You want facts? We are way behind in NIL $. We've been losing the transfer portal race. We are a .519 program. That's about 11th in the Big 12 conference. That's a huge recruiting tool isn't it?

A private school could happen. It just takes some resolve, courage & backbone leadership.

Yeah, the private school league is not gonna happen. Baylor's tuition is already ridiculous, and because of that, they really try to sell vibes and the overall college experience to prospective students. Part of that vibe is the fact that we're in P4 football. Truth be told, I look at the average student that Baylor is bringing in these days, and I don't think most are choosing Baylor because of our success on the field, but I think they do like that we play some of the other bigger programs in the state like tech, TCU, UH.

All of us posting on this message represent probably the top 5% of the fanbase that actually has expectations to win games. That's just the reality

That's the spirit!!! Spoken like a true Baylor Bubble fan.

Yes your ideas violate the court orders that have been coming out. Like the NIL "rules" you propose of paying them at the end of 4 years. Or saying no transfers. Those both violate court rulings.

So that is the first hurdle to get over to create this fantasy conference.

Few players will go play for a school that somehow gets around not allowing transfers. So we won't have access to most of the talent out there.

Lol. You think the SEC is the only major conference????? They have been left behind due to NIL. The last 3 national champions have been from the big 10.

A private school conference won't happen. Even if the sec and big 10 leave to create their own super division the leftovers will still stay in conferences with the state schools.

Violating Court orders? Ha! Those court orders will be null and void very soon.

What was wrong with the old transfer rules of making a kid sit out a year prior to instantly suiting up for his "new" team?

Yes, the last 3 teams to win the National Championship were Big 10 teams but since the college football playoff was implemented in 2014 the SEC has the best record (20-11) and most titles (6). Alabama has 3 titles and the best record.

Baylor is in trouble. We need to take control of our future. The college athletic landscape has changed. Boys suiting up and playing with girls. Bleeding red ink left & right. We are known more for Acrobatics & Tumbling than football.

Who is our billionaire savior? Buying championships is demeaning and despicable. Texas Tech? It does not surprise me they were willing to "buy their way" in. You can dress them up but you can't take them out in public.

I will not support "college" football or basketball or baseball where 18, 19, 20 & 21 year old kids are given millions of $$$ to represent my alma mater.

I'd rather watch high school 6-man football and will do so.

Comparing from before NIL is irrelevant. Different time periods. In NIL the big 10 is the dominant conference.

Those court orders aren't going anywhere without legal changes.

I never liked the transfer rule that way. Don't punish a kid who leaves a school. I would like to see it curtailed. Like one transfer only.

If you are leaving then just do so and stop coming on here complaining and throwing out bogus ideas that will never happen.

I wouldn't bother with this argument with Thee. As he will throw out there from time to time, he was a backup/walkon on Teaff's 1980 squad, and he seems to feel that the achievements of Briles and his squad of edgy inner-city kids somehow took attention away and eclipsed the achievements of his Teaff squad. In his mind, this validates the idea that little ol Baylor can't achieve big things in the modern era, so he has concocted this fantasy where we apparently invent a Time Machine and go back to the 1950s where the entire team is lilly white Church of Christ, traditional Catholics, evangelicals etc. Basically a division two fantasy league where we're still somehow nationally relevant and making millions in revenue

Bogus idea? You just refuse to face the pending body slam Baylor will be taking here very soon. I'd be contacting every single President of Private schools and lining them up for the transition if I was in charge. It was fun before NIL & Transfer Portal.

I'll be around to remind you self flagellation boys of what could have & should have been. First I've got to get ready for the Richland Springs Coyotes vs. Lometa Hornets game.

Edgy inner-city kids? That sounds a bit racist doesn't it? What does edgy mean? Would that classify as lack of discipline? We used to lead the nation as the most penalized team. Edgy.

Lilly white C of C? Are you talking about Abilene Christian, Harding, Lubbock Christian?

Division 2. Where is Prairie View A&M now days? Don't we tee them up September 12? I think we have Incarnate Word in '27!
