CMR is zero wins and 8 losses against rank teams after three years at Nebraska according to the paper today.

Buyout to get rid of him is over 60 million.

Lesson, be careful which coach you chase, you might just catch him.

Of course, all of this follows total disaster in NFL.

I don't know why this board continues to hate on Rhule when the current coach at Baylor is Dave Aranda. A guy whose bottom 2 coach in this league and a proven loser

It hurts to be left in a relationship and Rhule is kind of a "salesman" type

So how he acts and what he did rubs people the wrong way.

But you are right…I would take Rhule back in a heart beat compared to what we have coaching right now

I think the moral of the story is don't give extensions to coaches who haven't proven themselves.

Having Penn State poach Rhule would have been a good thing for Nebraska.

Then there's this from huskers.com: "In 2024, Rhule guided Nebraska to its first winning season in eight years, and to the program's first bowl victory since 2015. This season, Rhule has led the Huskers to a 6-2 start, the best eight-game record at Nebraska in nine seasons.

Academically, Rhule's program has achieved at a high level. Following the 2025 spring semester, the cumulative grade-point average of the Nebraska football team was 3.304, the highest in the history of the program."

Maybe they've just quit trying to win national championships. Which in the NIL era, is ok. Not everyone can afford to buy one. From ESPN: "Mar 24, 2026 ... This year, several CFP contenders are expected to fund rosters in the range of $40 million to $50 million" That's 4x-5x the amount that the average P5 school spent on NIL in 2023-2024.

Outside of Texas Tech, and Utah with their private equity tie in I'm not sure who in the Big 12 can get there.

In the Big 10, you've got Indiana, Michigan, Penn State and Ohio State. I don't think that teams like Iowa or Nebraska can get there.

Valid, but I think the takeaway for me is that Dave is so terrible that it makes a slightly above average coach look incredible

Rhule is a very good college coach, but not an elite one. He was a far better coach than we deserved coming off the implosion of the Briles era and the organizational clusterf that we were at the time.

Rhule Reality:

Seasons underachieved talent level: 2 college, 3 NFL
Seasons achieved at talent level: 5 college
Seasons achieved above talent level: 3 college

Rhule ability to leverage good seasons into new jobs/ contracts: 100%

Could be that Baylor and her minions have never developed mature coping mechanisms with which to live in reality's difficulties, especially the difficult ones of her own making. It is never mismanagement or irresponsible planning or frantic, fearful reactions on her part. Seems like her "fates" are others' faults, like Texas Monthly and UT; UT and OU leaving for the SEC and a better business deal; or those mean-spirited Baptists on both sides of the aisle who "have all of God's answers" regarding Truth and what Scripture really says (or means); or stupid decisions by the NCAA that unleashed high-finances into college athletics to force BU out; or a department head or athletic director who deceived "us" and sold us up the river for his own good or because of a never-before-seen incompetence.Blatant honesty and raw courage? Not helpful in this day and age--it might offend someone. It is far easier to bathe in quotes and references that make us "feel good" without digging into them in context and wording for life-and-soul-sustaining depth, the widespread shortcoming of the 20th century Christian church, with Baptists leading the way. Nah, it is easier to reflect on a "better time" even when the emperor is naked, the real storehouse is empty and no one seems to be in charge of Churchill's "clattering train".

I guess I'm too harsh, so "Jesus loves (us) this I know..."

only at Baylor would the University fire an AD for cause and then turn around and give him $1.4 million to go away. Makes you wonder what old Bear High was hiding in that deal?

Has anybody heard what old Mac is doing these days except counting Baylor's money? What a sorry university we're so-called "supporting" ?

Sign if a coach has done a good job is if the program is in better shape when he leaves than we he got there.

Baylor was in better shape when he left.. and if Nebraska fires him tonight they're in better shape than when he took over.

The record speaks so loudly, not a single win against a ranked team in three years and barely above a 50/50 record. He, indeed, had a brief inspirational moment at BU. Every call, every bounce of the ball went his way one year. But law of averages eventually levels those bouncing balls and ref miscalls. Pretty soon you are facing the reality of a very bad run in the NFL and a Nebraska team that remains a shadow of its glory days despite paying big bucks for the comeback coach. He never stays in any one place long enough to build a meaningful experience and indisputable record. Always leveraging a little success into big bucks and contracts that are cosmic. He is as sly as a fox and may be a very good man. But his own record nullifies any notion that he has extended success on any one power 5 team. He flashes in the pan, then runs off with the cash, so much easier than producing a sustained record with any one team. Who knows, he is older, and his stock has plummeted, maybe he will actually do something long term with Cornhuskers. But so far, so little to show for his big checks. Not sure if he can leverage this mess though, but there is always desperate Penn St or any team that rewrites the narrative with rose colored glasses. Nebraska has a bad hire on their hands and is still spinning the hire to cover their own blunder. CMR is mostly a flashy magician that can make a schools money disappear.

Thoughts on Aranda? Is his record acceptable? Is his complete tsnking of BU football? Why are you worried about ERhule when the guy currently coaching Baylor has made them completely irrelevant
2 winning seasons in 6 years (1 almost entirely made up of Rhules players)
36-37 in 6 years!
24-30 in a mid ass B12
1-2 in bowls.
Dave Aranda has completely destroyed Baylor football yet some of you are still pouting about Rhule. Try redirecting that energy into the worst coach in P4

No offense intended. I started this thread to discuss Nebraska situation, having just read CMR abysmal record in the paper. Never intended to criticize or defend current coach. Just not the topic here. So I offer no word about Arranda on a CMR thread. Plenty of Aranda threads already.

I don't know why there is any Matt Rhule love. We weren't a good team in any of the seasons that he was here.

It's OK to think that Aranda needs to be fired, AND to think that Matt Rhule is grossly overrated.

Baylor was really good Rhules last season. I've never said I thought Rhule was anything better than an OK coach. But the dudes MILES better than the garbage that is Dave Aranda. This board does a lot of crying about A guy whose "grossly overrated" this board should spend its time worrying and wondering why Mr Clean still has a job after tanking Baylor football after a fluke season almost entirely made up of Rhules Seniors

I never really liked the guy because he came in and piled on the former coaching administration. He took on a program that was a household name to football recruits across the state of Texas and seemed hellbent on making the program totally about himself… Single digit numbers going to his favorite players, abandoning our offensive identity for 3 yards and a cloud of dust, Tyke basketball goals on the sidelines…

I understand the program was in turmoil and that perhaps the move away from our previous football identity of being an up-tempo high octane offense was probably a joint effort with the administration, but he was extremely complicit in doing everything that could be done to kill any positive remnant of our previous identity and to erase the memory of Briles.

What does that have to do with anything? It wasn't like BU fired Rhule to hire Aranda.

Also, we're just old dudes sitting on the toilet talking about football on a forum. Whether or not our team has a good coach doesn't matter when talking about if another team's coach is good or not.

Oh and for the record I think Matt Rhule is a really good college football coach.

I think the consensus on this board is that Aranda is not a winner and I want new blood. We need someone with a freaking pulse and a plan. Matt Rhule left and Dave won with his team by defacto. I don't want Matt but I highly respect him and Snow.

I was a big Matt Rhule fan and would take him to coach my team any day. All his teams played hard, and after he took one year to install his culture, when they lost it was usually to a more talented team. You could visibly see the development of players on his team year over year. There was no "figuring it out." HE knew exactly what it was going to take to win from day one, put the plan into place, and could explain to you what he was trying to do.

Matt could recruit players. Dave can get good players to play.

So the early Dave years were good.

But recruiting is a completely different game now. 10 - 15 teams will get 80% of the NFL level talent.

Which Dave years were good? I'll give you 2021, but his next best year was 2024 which was…..OK? But certainly not anything to write home about. He was a one hit wonder, and we are currently paying the price for giving massive money to a one hit wonder.

Not commenting on Aranda except to say that the program he inherited was decent but not great. It was already a daunting challenge trying to figure out a coach that could get us back to our glory years, and now with the onset of NIL, it's a completely different landscape.

I am excited about this year though. We were not good last year, but somehow in spite of that, we have brought in better players than I would have ever imagined. I'm sure Aranda is on the hot seat, and deservedly so, but he has brought us glimpses of real success, and I am pulling for him. He's at least a likable guy.

That's a tough place to recruit to. You d hate to be an athlete at BYU. I might hate it more at Nebraska.
