That's the real question

I want him not within 500 miles of the program. He had/has his chance (multiple times) and shat the bed. Go away now.

Give the new AD several kicks in the face and let him explain why Daveypoo deserves more years of failed mediocrity. You'll never get a straight answer from this milksop otherwise.

A 9 win season is great for any school. Barring any questionable behavior, any coach that wins 9 games should be kept around for at least another year.

A 3 win season should not keep that coach around.

So he wins 9 then 4 the year after

And the talk will be to keep him around because of the year before

And it's just a cycle

Nine wins is good for Baylor. It gets you fired at real football schools.

I generally would be perfectly happy with nine wins, but Dave has already proven multiple times (2021-2022, 2024-2025) that he can't springboard success from the previous season into the following season.

I am starting to think Aranda is 100% a DEI hire

DEI hires are known to be incompetant, they're just the right race, sexual orientation, gender or all of the above. Dave was believed to be very competant, labeled a "defensive guru" at LSU for the results he got coaching elite 5 stars across the board. However, CDA has proven to be mostly incompetant as a D1 HC, that was the mistake of the AD & BOI who hired him.....never hire someone that's never been a HC to be your HC. Therefore, I don't believe CDA was a DEI hire.

This redundant thread is dumb and pointless. Yo-Da-Ve has a secure, high paying job at BU until after 2029. Quit kvetching!

DEI has become the next boogeyman of the right. Steele and Morris's were incompetent. No on refers to them as DEI.

I agree we all believed Aranda to be a right fit. He baffles me. He seems to dismantle his progress.

I believe he's about to have a fantastic year. Can he put together a string of fantastic?

Based on his past failures in player development alone, I'd say no. I'm starting to think what he did as a coordinator at LSU had to be a fluke because even a former coordinator with a string of success wouldn't be so blind to what he did in that position to carry forward as a HC.

He's had more than enough chances to show otherwise. He did well with another programs players, but not with his own.

It definitely wasn't a "fluke," because he was an excellent DC at two schools prior to his stop at LSU. I'd argue the job he did as DC at Wisconsin was more impressive than his LSU stint because he did it with players that weren't as highly regarded, and those defenses were great.

If/when we do fire Aranda, I'm quite confident he'll pick up a DC position at a P4 school, and I'm sure he'll be very good in that role. I just think he's overmatched as a HC, much as I like him personally.

Maybe. I think the game has passed him by a little. When you look at the immense talent he had to work with at LSU, his defenses were fine but not what i would call great. He had the guy who is arguably the best cornerback in the NFL currently in Derek Stingley Jr just as a for instance, among many other key pieces

That's really where it starts. We've got to start landing top talent out of High School again. We need to have a top QB backed up by a top QB. You can't win if there's a significant drop-off in talent due to an injury.

I read that Barry Switzer once said (paraphrase) "Don't hurt Thurman Thomas because we don't want to see that backup running back." (Barry Sanders)

Let's see 9 wins, then an extension of his contract and a raise.

Just in time to go back to 5-6 wins for 5 more years.

That just ain't going to happen in the new world of NIL. Reality: BU could land under-developed talent and serve as a farm team for upward moves to higher-paying gigs. Except our coach hasn't shown the ability to develop under-developed talent. He can only land it.

We are never going to land anything close to what Dave had to work with at LSU. However, that doesn't mean that we have to lose multiple games on last second Hail Marys, tackle poorly, or play out of position. That's on his coaching
