I watch the first round of the basketball tournament, and I'd watch the first round of a 24 team CFP also.

Absolutely. A 24-team playoff is going to be awesome. Every other level of college football has had a 24-team field (or larger) for years, and they're super fun.

The great thing about an expanded field is that we can finally let meaningless bowl games die (or just become showcase exhibitions for the G6) and allow the playoff to serve as the only postseason for all P4 teams.

And once you have an expanded field, you'll see a hierarchy of achievement established like what we have in the NCAA tournament, where a trip to the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight is virtually universally celebrated.

For some teams, making the field will be a huge deal. For others, winning a game will be massive. For most, a trip to the quarterfinals or semifinals will be program-changing. Etc., etc.

It will be "loads of fun" to watch:

9 SEC
9 B1G
Notre Dame
Miami
2 Big12 (maybe)
one other ACC
1 G6

7-5 SEC teams all have a case to be in because...SEC

IF you took the rankings right now it would be:

SEC- Georgia, Ala, TX, Ol Miss, Miz, Tenn, Kentucky, Mississippi State, LSU (9)
Big 10- OSU, Indiana, UCLA, Iowa, USC (5)
Big 12- Utah, BYU, OSU, Houston, Tech (5)
ACC- Mia, SMU, Wake (3)
Ind- ND
G6- Boise State

So not to far from what you said but also some of those are going to keep dropping as they keep losing/ start to play each other

I feel like to make it work at 24 there has to be clear language about just taking the top 24 ranked teams or something to prevent the argument for 7-4 or even 8-4 teams.

You should probably go take a look at the CFP rankings since the start of the four-team playoff. The field won't look like that at all.

They're not going to push solid-top 20 teams out of the top 25 entirely to include four- and five-loss Power 2 teams.

The SEC wouldn't get nine teams in because those schools will soon start handing each other losses.

The SEC and BIg Ten will get more schools in than the Big 12 and ACC ... but they should. They have more good teams.

I don't have a problem wtih good teams from the SEC, Big Ten and Notre Dame being included in the playoff field. I have a problem with worthy teams below that group being left out. A 24-team playoff will completely solve that.

Using last year's CFP rankings, the Big 12 would have gotten five teams in to the SEC's seven and the Big Ten's six. That's a damn sight better than being a one-bid league in a 12-team field.

Oh I agree it will look vastly different than the current rankings. They will start to lose and some of them will drop out.

That also did not take into account if there is anything written about conference champs getting in, even if they aren't ranked in the top 24 or if there will be 2 guaranteed G6 teams. I have not seen details on any of that yet.

If there are some things like that the current rankings only have one G6 and while rare there could be a situation like we had two years ago with Duke playing in the ACC championship and was unranked and could have gotten an auto bid if they had won.
