Am I the only one thinking the Hosea Wheeler news is being way overblown?

Is he the best defensive line prospect we have? Yes.

Is him being eligible going to turn the tide of this incoming 5-7 season? No.

I am glad he will be eligible and I'm sure he'll have a decent year. But this really changes nothing for my outlook on the season and I think the admin is employing some major propaganda to convince us otherwise.

I'm happy he is going to be eligible to play.

Expectations wise, I have no idea. He's a big dude, so if he's decent he'll be a big help.

I like to trust things I see vs what people wish. I haven't seen much of anything about him with my own eyes, as well as a lot of the current team or the current league.

In his lone season as Indiana he had 31 total tackles (solo and assisted) and 4 tackles for loss and no sacks. Now I know that, often times, nose tackles are not stats guys and a lot of their benefit is absorbing space, clogging lanes and sightlines, and not as evident on a spreadsheet. Nevertheless, he was not exactly a world-beater and I don't expect him to become one.

I've kind of been operating on the assumption that Indiana's backups last year would soundly beat every squad Dave has fielded outside of 2021. So in that sense, yes, he was a big upgrade over whatever we had last year. I think he is at least a solid P4-level starter. But to your point, he's not an Aaron Donald level of starter that's going to take our opponent's run game away, or anything like that

Excluding 2021, the way CDA's DLines tend to get pushed around - especially when playing a P4 defense and especially when we desperately need a stop - Wheeler could be an "upgrade" and still not be all that great.

I will say, unlike basically all of our other transfers this season (many of them were frankly just warm body additions), wheeler actually has skins on the wall in the form of being a former all conference selection as well as a solid contributor on a national championship squad. He's also apparently been dominant in practice, though I think that probably speaks to the fact that our offensive line is undersized

Yeah, I agree that's why he probably looks dominant against our OL after going against Indiana's OL during practice last year and Big 10 OL in games.

I hope he stays healthy all year and plays like an all-conference player for Baylor. One DL guy demanding double teams on every play is a good thing, so I hope that's what we see in him this year. He has a good resume and lots of experience so I hope we see a very high level of play.

The second biggest was paying Hosea a ton of money despite eligibility issues. That's paying off so far. If Hosea didn't have those eligibility issues we couldn't have afforded him, almost without question.

Difference making DTs are the hardest players to find --- this isn't from me this is what Art Briles often said. Having a difference maker at DT makes all the difference on a defense. Think about Apu (Hosea profiles as better); think about Andrew Billings. Baylor teams with one of these are few and far between.

Hosea was a player getting significant run on the national championship team and one of the best defensive lines in the country.

Of course this is only one player and winning football requires a lot of things, but I guarantee they were popping champaign over the football building yesterday when this judge made the ruling.

What is your source on $2M? Not saying your wrong, but people claiming to have contributed to the payment that it is more like $6M so curious where you are getting your number.

That is just reality?

It will be a massive upset if we make it to four wins.

I mean Dave is still our HC so that means 5 wins tops. I think Klandermann can be good, but it is his first year so he will get benefit of the doubt.

I am still not sold on Lagway. Obviously, has tremendous upside, but can be VERY bad at times. Our O line wont help him either.
