FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Baylor Soccer went into SEC territory for the season-opener against No. 10 Arkansas and rode a first-half Lauren Omholt penalty kick goal to a 4-1 drubbing of the Razorbacks to kick off the 2026 season in style.
Omholt was joined on the score sheet by Callie Conrad, Olivia Hess and Noelle Sather, who all scored second-half goals. The Bears’ 4-0 lead was drawn down to 4-1 with a goal from Aniyah Nurse-Whyte for the hosts with 22 minutes to play, but the lead was never seriously threatened.
Michelle Lenard’s team did not waste much time working early chances for wingers Grace White (Fr.) and Lauren Omholt (Sr.) in the first 10 minutes, but the breakthrough came in the 16th minute on Omholt’s right wing. The Purdue transfer picked the perfect moment to turn on the jets as she carried the ball up the field, stacked her defender and promptly got taken out from behind after entering the Arkansas 18-yard box. Omholt coolly dispatched the resulting penalty kick into the bottom right corner of the goal and gave the Bears a 1-0 lead.
The penalty was not overwhelming in pace and, without such great placement, might have been saved as the Razorbacks’ keeper guessed correctly.
The Bears went on to dictate play for the rest of the half, with Natalie Vatter and others making key defensive interventions when needed.
At the break, Baylor head coach Michelle Lenard said she was proud of how her team was handling the physicality of the Hogs and finding rhythm, but she also told the broadcast that “I actually think we left a lot out on the table in the first half. We could have... one more pass and I think we score [another] goal. There's a little bit too much space between the lines. We've got to be organized, and we know this [Arkansas] team's not going away. “
The Bears took that halftime message and ran with it, scoring three times in the first 21 minutes of the second half.
First, Callie Conrad (Sr.) caught the Arkansas defense napping in a transitional moment, finding the bottom left corner from just left of the penalty spot in the 56th minute. Midfielder Brynnlee Bohannon (Fr.) teed up Conrad to register the assist in her collegiate debut.
Eight minutes later, winger Theresa McCullough (Sr.) found herself in a more central position and made a great turn to lose multiple defenders and open up space for midfielder Olivia Hess (So.) to run in on goal down the left side. Hess beat the keeper high with pace to make it 3-0 Baylor in the 64th minute.
Barely two minutes later, USF transfer midfielder Noelle Sather scored the goal of the night, pressing a three-on-two breakaway into a solo shooting opportunity from the top middle of the 18-yard box. Sather could pick her spot and went high to the left with wicked pace. 4-0 Baylor in the 66th.
No. 10 Arkansas quickly drew one back, scoring with a header on the far post of a corner kick in the 68th minute.
The Bears’ defense overcame the brief spell of what might have been complacency, and saw the game out at 4-1.
For Michelle Lenard, this is her first top-10 win at Baylor and the Bears’ first since 2021 against No. 8 TCU. In scoring four goals, the Bears also matched their highest single-game tally from all of last season.
For the Razorbacks, this was their worst loss since 2021, and their worst home loss since 2011.
The Bears now return to the friendly confines of Betty Lou Mayes Field, where they will host another SEC team, former Big 12 and SWC rival Texas A&M. That game is set for Sunday at 7:30 p.m., and entry is free to the public while a broadcast will be available on ESPN+.
